Help with Fireworks!

I don't know how some of you do it, but I see scores well over 8,000 sometimes! The best I've ever gotten was 3,000 something, and I won the 3rd place pin. I really want to know some tips. Also, I'm a bit confused on the "lock" button. I've played around with it during the game, but I still don't seem to understand exactly what it's for.

I wish I had better tips - I'm sure you've heard the advice to go for "flawless" each time, even if it means you miss some. So far, that's helped me the most. I'm really interested to know about the lock button, too. Anyone?

It does 2 things with the fireworks icons at the bottom of the screen. Instead of the cursor moving back and forth when you change fireworks the cursor remains stationary and the fireworks move left and right. Between rounds it stays on the last firework you shot instead of resetting to the first one.

I'm no expert, but to me the lock button serves no purpose. If you need to look at the bottom of the screen to figure out what firework you've selected you will never get a really good score. You need to memorize the order and the quickest way to get to the next firework without looking at the bottom of the screen.
