Help with figuring out borrowed point scenario

Ok, I apologize if this is long and/or a dumb question but my mind is reeling with everything.

Currently we have a trip booked 4/4-4/11 and getting less and less hopeful by the minute of that actually happening, however, I am not ready to just cancel and rebook. We have decided if it comes to that we will go at the end of August. Right now I'm thinking of reserving the end of August but I'd need to borrow points - March 2021 points. If we then cancel our April trip and need to reallocate points, the borrowed ones (that I'd be using to secure August) will then go to my current use year, right? If that's true - when do they expire, March 2021 or March 2022? Even typing this, I'm confused!!! Thanks for any help!

Sounds like you have a March use year and used 2020 points to book the April trip.

If you borrow points to book August 2020 and borrow 2021 points to do so, the borrowed points will expire on 2/28/2021. Borrowed points cannot be returned to the original use year so if they do not get used by 2/28/2021, they will expire.

If the April trip is cancelled (and assuming DVC continues the policy of not putting cancellations made 30 days or less prior to arrival), the returned 2020 points could be banked into 2021. Then they would be good for stays between 3/1/2021 and 2/28/2022. If not used by 2/28/2022, they would expire as they cannot be banked again.

Yes. And then remember that the points you bank from the cancelled April trip must be used btwn 3/1/3021 and 2/28/22. You will not be able to bank them again.

Borrowing is a final transaction and if you borrow for August, then they become March 2020 UY points and will expire Feb 28th, 2021.
