Help with earning a Southwest Companion Pass

Id like to apply for the SW and Hyatt cards off the Chase website should I apply for both at once?

Couldn't you do the 60k offer now and then the other in Oct\Nov? You'd get the higher bonus and time to make up any potential points and then get the rest with the bonus on the other card?
NOT a good idea to get a card now and another one at the end of the year. In order to get the CP you have to earn 110K points in one calendar year. If you wait till the end of the year to apply for another card you had better be able to make sure they post the point in 2017. Plus your CP will expire Dec 2018. But if you earn the 110K in points early in the year you get the remainder of the year in which you earned the points plus the entire next year to use the CP.

I applied for the Chase Southwest Premier in October 2016 and the Plus in November 2016. I received the companion pass in February 2017 and it's good through the end of 2018. Both cards had 50K bonuses, which I augmented with about $10,000 in spending between October and January (including paying for a WDW trip). Happy to answer any questions.

I don't believe I'm at 3/24 because I've had the Freedom for more than 24 months and just upgraded to the Freedom Unlimited. That's all I have with Chase at this point...

you could. probably not a good idea to apply for both if ur at 3/24 though.

5/24 applies to all new cards, not just Chase cards.

So is that to say that basically Chase would be the only one to deny you based on that. Whereas other banks may not really consider that...

Chase will deny your application if you have received 5 new cards in the past 24 months, regardless of the issuer of those cards. So you could have received 0 Chase cards and 5 Citi cards and Chase will still deny you.

Also keep in mind that being an authorized user on a card will count as part of the 5/24 for chase. It results in an automatic denial with almost no success during reconsideration.

I didn't chance losing the opportunity. I got one card ASAP in 2016 and another card shortly thereafter, and had all the points earned by May. I had a pass for half of 2016 and all of 2017, and because you can change companions, we've used it a fair amount. I think we've had 3 free trips on it with another 2, at least, to go!

The 50K personal and 60K business make getting the companion pass super easy right now. DH signed up for both, we met the minimum spend, and we are just waiting for the bonus points to post. We have a year and a half for the companion pass, made better in that I can travel with him to his conferences for free on company paid tickets.

I got the 50K personal 50K business 4 years ago to use for a Disney trip and other travel. That time, we signed up in early December, met the minimum spend from Christmas and a January birthday and business computer upgrade, and then bought flowers and birthday packages for our siblings with birthdays the end of January/ early February to get the bonus SW points (1750 each purchase at the time) to bump up points to 110K (that Flowers.com bonus counting towards companion pass has ended).

IMHO, unless you have no travel planned for the rest of this year, or you really need the companion pass for 2019, getting the cards now and just getting the points for $5000 in spend between the 2 cards in 3 months is really nice and a lot easier than topping off your account with $5000 in extra spend as quickly as possible. It depends on your needs and how much/how fast you spend money.

Google Chase credit card signup rules. I believe they have particular requirements for how long you need to wait between 2 personal credit card product applications, but the travel hacking community would know better. You might be able to swing it if you are willing to call their reconsideration line. Alternatively, if you have some sort of small/home business (or big one), you could sign up for the SW business card and the personal Hyatt card (no business Hyatt card).

Last week, I applied DH for the SW Plus and Premier literally within 30 seconds of one another and both were instantly approved. I did one using Google Chrome and one using Internet Explorer, which was a suggestion I read on this board.
