What can I do to help my poor little feet. They are so dry and for the first time, one cracked last night...it hurt.
I rubbed some baby oil on them last night but what else can I do?
Thanks

Baby oil might not soak in. I would try something like Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream. Or the foot one. Now if you know someone who sells Avon I really like their Cracked heal cream. Now you might try the baby oil then out the heavier cream on top of that, then put socks on. Also when you are not putting the oil, creams on make sure your feet are dry before putting socks on.

First, where do you live? What's the weather like? What is your work/stay at home situation. What shoes do you typically wear during the day?

The body's best time to absorb moisture is at night. (Face, hands, feet, etc.) This is why a lot of the high-end moisturizing companies make "night time" creams.

On that note, I personally do not care to have lotion and socks on my feet all night. So what I do, when I go to work, I wear knee hi's (since I usually wear slacks to work) and I rub lotion into my feet just before putting on my knee-hi's. By the time I'm home from work, they're a different pair of feet! Really!

However, if you live where you can wear sandals and flip flops all the time, or if you're at home with your shoes off a lot, the night-time remedies may work better for you.

Good luck!

Try Aquaphor at night with socks. Vaseline also works well.

Bag Balm. Slather it on liberally and cover with socks.

Well, prevention is key. But if you already have the cracking, then I soak my feet in warm water - and slather with lotion. Put socks on and repeat every night.

For prevention - I apply vasalene advanced healing lotion on my feet after EVERY shower and at night.

Burt's Bees has a hand salve that works really well for feet as well. As others have mentioned, use it right after a shower while the skin is softened, put it on nice and thick, and then put on socks. My feet don't crack, but my hands do every winter (they crack and bleed :sad2: ) if I don't stay on top of it. The Burt's works realy well for me.

For a long time I had dry cracked feet and would use moisturizers to try and combat the problem only to discover that I was in fact suffering from "tinea pedis" (athelete's foot) which I always associated with the burning itch between the toes but which also causes the soles of the feet to dry and crack causing a "moccasin" look to my skin.

The athlete's foot fungus thrives in moist, warm enviroments (hello moisturized feet in socks) so you might want to try using Lamisil or Tinactin and see if that helps.

I just learned from a collegue of mine that she has been putting solid Crisco on her feet for the past 20. She puts it on at night. Her doctor told her that this would work fine, not to spend $$ on the high end lotions.

Put A&D Ointment (usually in the baby supply aisle of your grocery store, as it is used for diaper rash) on them, and wear socks to bed. Within a coupel of days, you'll be better.

Then it requires maintenance...there is a wonderful cream called Rexeme which I use (I have the worst feet in the world) which keeps them soft, supple, no cracks. You can go to www.rexeme.com and order it. It's expensive, but you'll never find anything better.

As a preventative measure for the future, use a rich creme on your feet (hands, too!) right before bed, like the Norweigan creme Kae mentioned, or Gold Bond Ultimate healing lotion. If you spend a few minutes letting it absorb, you don't need to wear socks to bed, which can be a problem for those of us who don't like socks. ;)
