Has anyone stayed at the DoubleTree Suites in the Downtown Disney Area? Im not sure if we can afford a deluxe when we go in Dec. and have booked a room at DoubleTree for now. We are a family of 5 with my daughters best friend traveling with us. Just wondering how the rooms are, how the bus service is, etc. Any information would be helpful since I have not stayed there before. I am hoping for some great discounts for deluxes in December, although I dont know what will accomodate 2 adults and 4 children. Thanks for the help.princess:

We stayed at the Doubletree Suites in Downtown Disney in Feb for a week.

The resort was nice, but not Disney nice. The main lobby and restraurant were nice.

The room was "worn". The room was quite large, but the main living room and bedroom were connected with a large entry which only had a "pull" divider to seperate the bedroom from the living area.

The couch in our living room was in very rough shape. I was very happy I didn't have to sleep on it.

There were two double beds in our bedroom. There was a very nice area with a mirror to get ready. The bathroom was good size. The mini-kitchen was OK, but the refrig didn't really get the food that cold, even though I turned it down.

The bus service to the parks was just OK. The buses don't get as close to the parks are the Disney buses and they don't run as frequently. In fact the bus to/from AK only runs every hour during the middle of the day. We wanted to return to the hotel, so we took a cab after waiting for 30 minutes.

The hotel staff were very friendly. I could have lived without the calls regarding the Hilton Vacation Club however.

Overall I would rate our experience as OK, but I doubt we will return. We really missed the "disney magic" at the hotel.

If you have other questions, please ask.

I would check tripadvsior.com and travelocity.com for hotel reviews.

I agree with caverill. We stayed there last June and I also found the room to be worn and in need of refurbishment. Staff was friendly. Breakfast buffet was pretty good - not character breakfast good or Boatwright's good, but decent and filling. I slept one night on the sleeper sofa and found it the worst one I have slept on, but not terrible. I've slept on the DVC sleeper sofas several time so I compared this one with those. They were much better.

We stayed there for three nights so we could visit the Hilton Grand Vacation Club open house. We own DVC and have friends who own HGVC, so we wanted to compare.

Thanks for the information guys. It makes me think I better be praying for some good room codes or packages to come out to be able to stay back on property. Does anyone have any suggestions for the most reasonable place to stay for a family of 6? Thanks again::MinnieMo

You could always get connecting rooms at one of the moderates. The rooms are bigger than the value and with the 2 attached theres plenty of room for everyone. At the time we were 4 adults a 16yr old and a 13yr old. I've never been to a suite in the deluxe hotels but while visiting a friend at the AKL during my last trip it seemed kind of cramped (2 adults 2 kids w/ bunk beds and a lot of luggage).

On your previous post about the doubletree- there are two doubletrees in DD. I stayed at the non-suite one that you mentioned, which is only a 5 min walk or so from the suite one. Its at the end of the strip of hotels, a nice walk to DD. One that can be done but not one you would want to do everyday. And I agree with the bus situation- you can't beat a disney hotel as far as transportation goes. Its a must have

I'm planning in December also - crossing my fingers for some codes ( I hear they come out in the end of August for Dec)
