We adopted this guy (Buster) about 6 weeks ago and are looking at getting him trimmed up in the next couple of weeks for the holidays (nails as well). He's a Cairn Terrier/Dachshund mix with maybe some Jack Russell. Anyway, before I start calling around I thought I'd check here and see what I can expect to pay. I'm just looking for basic services, nothing fancy. What do you think it'll cost???

Just had my little guy done two days ago at PetSmart. He is a medium size beagle. A Basic Bath/Brush/ Nail trim was $20. I prefer to patron local business rather than chains, but our local groomer went under. But she used to charge around $25. When I get what PetSmart calls the top dog package it cost $32. Good Luck :thumbsup2

He's darling!

We go to a lady who has a small shop and she usually charges $20-$25 depending on whether she has any mats. (Our dog not the groomer! :rotfl2:)

When I checked other places it was always closer to $45 so I thought she was quite reasonable compared to everywhere else near us.

Grooming can vary but I agree with the previous posters guess on average cost. Not only does it vary with price but also with service. Our daughter has groomed dogs as a part time job to earn money for her first car. Her aunt used to love the job she did compared to the quality/treatment of PetSmart. I second trying to find a local groomer. I'm not sure how close her breeder is to you, but she does an excellent job and is our daughter's mentor. She is in Robinson Township and her kennel name is Merlynn. Anytime we need to board our dogs, that's where they go as well.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I know of two that are close that I plan on calling, but just wanted to get an idea.

Just for fun, here's another pic of Buster.

Just sayin' I LOVE YOUR DOG!!!! :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc

Aww w he is a cutie find local groomer if you can. We have great lady and she charges flat 28 for bath/ brush/ nails. She is really great.

he's cute, it looks like the only stuff that need trimming is around his face, which shouldn't be too $$$- I have a poodle mix, and she needs a HAIRCUT every 6 weeks or so, I just bought a set of good clippers and give her the 'army haircut' myself to save the 50 bucks it costs around here...:)
If this were my dog, I'd just watch youtube, and learn how to groom that face at home! - I learned by watching some videos LOL

yeah, you need to either trim it,or get it done asap, your little dog can't see right now!:rotfl2:

Buster is so stinking cute! We have our Maltese done by a local groomer and its 40.00

It costs $45 each at my groomer for my miniature schnauzers to get baths, haircuts and nail trims. She does an excellent job.

In my house I have 3 Shih Tzu's and a Silky Terrier and usually we have a local mobile groomer come to the house she charges about 50 per dog. They get their nails trimmed mats taken out and their hair cut and shaved. I had to stop using petsmart, also going local is cheaper, and if you use a mobile groomer usually having more dogs can help you get a discount.

If you do decided on taking your dog to PetSmart I have to warn you set your appointment up in advance and don't take him around the holidays. I took one of the Shih Tzu's there a week before Christmas and they forgot her in the back for 2 hrs, she's terrified to go into the store anymore even just getting her toys!

Thanks everyone! This seems to be in-line with what I was hoping.

It looks like he has moreof a single coat than a double, so it's possible that if you get the job done professionally the first time that you'll be able to keep it up yourself after that, if you want to. Most important is to brush from the skin out daily so that no mats get a chance to form (especially in groin area and neck/ears).

And for the PP who said the dog can't see, believe me, he can! I had wheaten terriers for years, and most terriers are left with hair over their eyes and don't run into things ;).

Buster is a cutie! Some advice from a long hair doxie owner, ask for a sanitary trim and foot hair trim. My Petsmart includes those in the basic Bath and Brush package....It really helps keep my Bailey clean from foot to um, tail. ;)

About a week ago Rusty and Earl's house and kennel caught on fire and everything was destroyed :( they're planning on rebuilding but as of now they're not sure when they will be able to

My mother has a boarding and grooming kennel and typically for bath, brush, nails/ears and light trimming she charges 25-30
