We have gone to WDW more than 25 times, next year in January we plan to go to DLR. I bought the unnoficial guide and read it, I still feel so lost, is the right info so hard to get or am I just not looking in the right places?

We want to stay at one of the Disneyland resorts and want to do character meals and not miss out,.

So where are the best resources available in the Internet that will help me with planning? Any tips and suggestions will be really appreciated,.

Thanks

Christian

I would advise that before you choose dates you are fully informed about what that means.

See "What You Should Know About Off-Season at DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=18462889

Also, FWIW, "Comparison of Weather For WDW and DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1711098

Thanks for the advise. I love your guide, the dates are not very flexible since I can only get away the first two weeks of January. Do you think there wiil be a lot of rehabs and early closings at that time??

Also I really like to stay at a Disney Resort, without money being an issue. Do you think my family would like the DisneyLand Hotel better or the Grand Californian?? Daughters are 12, 8, and 3.

Thanks a lot,

Christian

Hi,
We've stayed twice at the Grand Californian and LOVED it both times. Right in the middle of Down Town Disney and a leisurely 10 min walk from Disney Land. It has it's own entrance into DCA which was wonderful for our family but we are all older (kids are 19). The CS restaurant White Water Snacks is very good. Storytellers at the GCH has a breakfast buffet with Brother Bear and Chip and Dale. Goofy's Kitchen is at the Disney Land Hotel and their is a character breakfast at the Paradise Pier hotel.

Hope this helps a bit.

If $$ is no issue go with the GCH. It's nicer, closer, & the entrance into DCA is great for quick breaks or mid day breaks.

& i second reading all of HydroGuy's tip threads. I would read his "DLR for WDW Vets" & his "How to use FP in DLR" threads several times (with a DLR map out). It will help you get a lay of the land.

Have a great time visiting Walt's Park. :thumbsup2

I would love to stay at GCH myself but they cannot handle families of 6 in regular rooms. But I say GCH for you!
:)

Early January HM will be down for 2 weeks and late January IASW is usually down. This happens every year. Other things do usually go down in early Jan too. This year Fantasmic went down Jan 4.

To see past January refurbs check:

"Historical DLR Park Hours, Entertainment and Refurbs" - www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2291124

After the weekend after New Years crowds usually drop. The Rose Bowl does draw in extra visitors.
