Help with Disneyland Accom

Hi all, could we please get your input again.
Looks like we are going to just do a California Adventure Trip from 25th Feb till the 22nd of March.

We are looking to 5 days at Disney right near the start of the trip, then Knotts Berry Farm etc.Then its a drive upto San Fran,across ti Yosemite and over to Vegas. So the Parks will be before the spring break crowds. So we need to know where have you stayed that is very close to Disneyland?
And what was it like.

Any info at all would be great

I have had lots of advice on DIS to stay at The park vue hotel very close to Disney just as close as the expensive Disney properties. Around $120 per night. If money is no issue the Disney Calfornia hotel ($400 per night is the best) We have booked the Park Vue for next April. Cheers GW

On our first visit we stayed at Sheraton Anaheim. 3 star, huge rooms, quiet, great pool to watch the nightly fireworks from, a shuttle to/ fr dlr , cheap but good qualitycoffee shop cafe / avg restoraunt , approx $150 pn

2nd visit we went all out and stayed grand californian. Great location, good rooms but not great, a little squashy but had triple bunk for our 3 boys. Walk straight into dtown Disney, private entrance to DCA , top pool/ water slide...very high quality....the price...even with 40% off approx $350pn.....ouch.....but worth every cent for convenience and Disney immersion WDW style ( or as best you can do at dlr)!!

we stayed at desert inn anaheim which is directly across from the entrance to DLR on south harbor blvd. rates are very, very reasonable (cheaper than park vue inn which is right next door), rooms are spacious and we had no noise (ask for a room at the back in the 'courtyard area').

we found them awesome to deal with, and if paying by c/card, you pay upon check out, so really great to have flexibility to book when the $$ is good and rates are good, but not pay til you get there

they have a wide range of rooms, free parking, free wifi, they have a free breakfast, but it's cereal and bagels/donuts and orange juice. nothing fancy or special at all, but it is free, so we didn't expect much, and actually preferred to have our own breakfast in the room or in parks etc. they do have a fridge/microwave in the room + coffeemaker, so great for preparing own breakfasts/snacks and keeping drinks for when you return to the room. customer service was nothing short of amazing for us and very helpful at answering our questions. also the standard hairdryer, iron, ironing board etc

if you arrive pre-check in, they have large & small lockers in a room that you can store your luggage in -- $1 in quarters will get you a locker for however long you need it, and they will make change in the reception/lobby for you.

just had a quick look at january rates for you (feb not yet out) and a standard room (2 x qn beds in a large room, table + chairs etc) will run $89/night, but that may come down somewhat by feb.

It's not as essential to stay on site at DLR as it is at WDW. Everything is within walking distance, and there are plenty of 'Good Neighbour' hotels/motels most of which are along S.Harbor, which are your standard places to sleep motels. Some come with an included breakfast. Many people recommend the HOJO's which is a 10minute walk.

I can recommend the Howard Johnson, we stayed there in 2009 and for our trip in Sept/Oct this year we are splitting our stay between the Grand Cali and the HoJo.

I have just checked their message boards and they have their Entertainment rate available for the end of February, so this might suit you. This hotel is nothing flash, but the rooms are big and clean and the staff are wonderful. The pool areas are great for kids as well. They don't have free breakfasts, but there are plentyof places to eat nearby. It's an easy 8-10 minute walk to the Disneyland turnstiles.

Even though I'm beyond excited to stay at the GCH, I'm also,looking forward to our stay at the HoJo. It's just a nice, comfortable hotel.

HOJO have entertainment card retro rates for Feb out but not March yet $59, 69, 79, 89 and 129 plus tax. We have stayed there three times and have been very happy.

You'll probably want to book before we go, but were staying at the Par Vue and HoJo's so can give you an idea on both, but we don't get back til mid October.

All of the Disney hotels are out of our budget, unless some magic awesome sale comes up!

We have stayed twice at Hojos- their water playground for kids is great (if you have them!) but it is also a really easy walk, so you can pop back for a nap/swim in the late afternoon and then head back to the parks at night, which we found was a great way to recharge batteries.

We have also stayed at HoJo and it is the only non-disney resort to have a waterpark - which my nephew loved!!!

I have also stayed at 2 other hotels (can't remember their names) in the vicinity of HoJo and HoJo was so so much better than the other 2.

I would say definitely look into HoJo's if you have kids! It also has a great restaurant Mimi's across the road...
