We are very limited as to what airline we use. We have Delta and United. It has never cost us over 450.00pp to fly out of Montana. We are planning on leaving Dec 10 for WDW and the tickets are almost 800.00pp. I cannot justify 4000 for airfare for us. Now I have looked at driving but we don't want to drive too far as the weather here in Dec can be iffy. We are avoiding th Thanksgiving and Christmas travel. I am just wondering if anyone has and idea if airfare tends to be higher in summer or is airfare just going up and up.

I know you'd rather not drive anywhere but how about flying Southwest out of Spokane? For the first half of Dec they have fares around $420 pp. I'm in Alberta and have looked at flying out of Montana (Great Falls and Billings) but haven't seen any real savings over what we can get from United at our nearest airport. Remember that Tues-Thurs are the cheapest days to fly.

Good Luck!:)

We have used Delta for our last 2 trips and paid around $218 pp R/T, booked in Feb 2010 for Sept 2010. We drive to Bangor Maine and save about $1000 for the 3 of us over Halifax NS or Moncton NB, we never fly out of our local airport in Charlottetown because of the high cost of getting to a real airport from there of island. I had thought to try http://www.allegiantair.com/ , they were about $80 each way, but charge for each bag so we went Delta, Next year we are going to give Allegiant a try. :thumbsup2

If you can fly Southwest from another airport, Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday have the cheapest fares--usually. There's invariably the odd exception!

Thanks for the replies. The bad part is some of the roads could be closed. It may be chilly or it may be a blizzard. If the fares don't go down I may have to cancel.

Depending where you are, how about spending a day driving to SLC, 15 is ok to drive, better than 90 over the boarder into Idaho.

Other than that maybe a puddle hopper from somewhere within a couple hours.

Are prices higher because of flights getting booked by skiers, or because it is holiday time travel?

Its a 24 hour round trip drive to SLC. I don't think I can convince anyone to do that. It is usually more expensive because of the smaller airport. I have never been on a flight that was completely full.

I used to sell airline tickets about 10 years ago and back then the best time to find flight deals was 2-3 months prior to your departure. If you booked too soon the flights would be astronomical. It may be different now that the internet has taken over. I would keep checking.

GOOFY4DONALD, check flights now. I just got the following from Great Falls:

Fare summary Price breakdown
Name Fare(s) Additional taxes and fees Fare subtotal(s)
Adult1 388.00 USD 42.80 USD 430.80 USD
Please review the fare rules for this itinerary. Fare total: 430.80 USD

This is for Dec 10-17 from united.com.

Not gonna get much better that that?

Let us know what you end up getting.:)

Thanks. I am hoping that after summer it may come down. If it goes up then forget it.

On the united.com website just around 4:30, the time I posted that. Dang that sure went away fast! It's showing at $450-ish if you could leave and return on the Thursday...

Just keep checking lots of times during the day, you never can tell. Hope you find a good one!:goodvibes

Are you pricing for 5 people? There could be a lower rate if you put in just 1 person but if you put in 5 it goes up because they don't have 5 tickets at the low price available.
