I got a sore throat a couple of days ago and went into the emergency room and was told I have a abcess on my left toncill. I recieved a amoxiclyn and a pain reliver called hydrocodone which from what I understand is generic for vicodon. The hydrocodone has done nothing for the pain nor the fever of 102 I haave had all day. I was wondering if anybody has had this and what was done for relief from the pain. I can't eat or drink because of the pain. I have to see my real doctor tomorrow but in the meantime I have to go to work tomorrow and watch 1 year olds. It hurts to talk and breathe so any help would be appreciated.:(

YIKES...I wish I could offer some advice but here is good thought coming your way that you get some relief quickly!...hopefully bumping this up will help ...TAke Care!

You might want to take some Ibuprofen with the Vicodin or a couple of hours later. This has helped us when we had abscesses in our teeth. It will control the fever and the anti inflammatory medication helps the pain even more with the Vicodin. That's what we do. I do not profess to be a physician or even a nurse so do not accept this as medical advice, please.

That sounds so awful! If you are not drinking you maybe dehydrated. You must drink to get well.
Amoxicillin sounds kinda mild for that.
Man I would be bumming in your shoes. I am allergic to Vicodon!

I hope you get some relief tomorrow.

I have no advice, just a question.

When is the surgery taking place to remove the tonsil?

As for Ibuprofen and Vicodin, I'd ask your doctor b4 mixing any meds. Though Ibuprofen would help with the fever if you can take it.

I had this about 7-8yrs ago. The pain from it is awful. Unfortunately, it hurt so much to swallow that I didn't drink anything and became very dehydrated. I had to go to the hospital for IV fluids to get re-hydrated. Try to get some fluids in, even sucking on ice. I don't remember what they gave me for the pain but it was prescription(probably something similar to what you have). Unfortunately, the pain won't get better til the antibiotics kick in. The good news is that the antibiotics should kick in quickly! I would recommend NOT working with 1 yo's til you are better.

:grouphug: for you!

I had this a # of years ago too. I 2nd the ice chips. I too had to be rehydrated w/ IV.

I'm praying for you!

Today I feel a tad better but it still hurts to much to do just about anything. I went to work so they wouldn't be under staffed with little kids but as soon as they got somebody I came home so I wouldn't fall asleep while watching little ones and I didn't take my vicodine while at work. I have a doctors appointment today at 2:15 and I guess it will be decide then what the next step is and if I will have surgery. I just want to be better by thanksgiving:(
