Help with 7DMT Seating — Me, 2 age 8, and 2 age 5

I thought I had a firm grasp on the seating rules, ages etc but now have the following situation and wondering if this would work.

I have five FPs for 7DMT. Two kids are 8 and two are 5.

Can the 8 year olds ride together, I ride with one of the five year olds, and the other five year old ride in the same car directly in front or behind us? If not, is there some “set-up” that would make it work?

The 8 year olds can ride together, but 5 year olds will both need an adult. Sorry about that.

The 5 year old will not be able to ride alone. You can put the 8 yr. with the 5 yr. old and let the other 8 yr. go alone. Not sure you’d want a 5 yr. alone in that ride anyway, might be a little scary for them if it’s their first time. Good luck!

Technically this isn't allowed either. A child is supposed to be 7 before riding with another child under the age of 14. However I have heard of them making exceptions in 7DMT and considering the same car "sitting together" and allowing this scenario right in front of the parent. It seems to depend on the CM though.

So, it sounds like: the two first-year kids in the back seat of one car, the two five-year-olds in the front seat of the immediate following car, the OP in the back seat of that same car.

My guess is you'll be at the mercy of whatever that CM decides and hopefully allows, but if I had to guess I'd imagine it would be one 8 year old and one 5 year old just in front of adult and other 5 year old. Second 8 year old alone probably in front of 8/5 year old pair (different car).

Respectfully disagree. The two eight year olds, being over seven, don't need to ride with anyone over 14. The two five year olds do.

That's what I'm saying. It was suggested that one of the 8 year olds ride with one of the 5 year olds. Yes its fine for the 8 year old, but the 5 year old can not ride with the 8 year old under the rules (but of course the CM may allow it).

My DD (10) and 7 year old were allowed to go on together both my June and November trips. I was told as long as they’re over 7 they do not need an adult. She has two 8 year olds. Either the 8 and 5 year olds can sit together and she can sit behind all of them, or the other scenario I stated should work as well.

Your 7 and 10 year old were allowed to ride together because 7 is the age at which Disney allows riding alone. However, the OP has 2 five year old's, each of which has to ride with someome OVER 14. There is only one person in her party over 14.

OP, be prepared to not be able to ride. Or, since you are an odd number, maybe try and find another adult in the queue who is part of an odd number party as well and see if one will ride with your other 5 year old. If it's another woman or a grandma or something, it should be okay. I did that once for a family in your situation. The CM was not going to allow a mom with 2 little ones to ride and, as a fellow mom, I volunteered to sit with her young son. This was on Gadgets Go Coaster at Disneyland. I was there with my 2 boys (both over 7 at the time), so I would have been riding alone.

Most of the CMs we encountered were very serious about this rule. My middle daughter was 8 during our last trip and she's small for her age. She got directly asked by a CM about her age on every ride that she wanted to ride with her 12 year old sister. Even Little Mermaid and Nemo rides.

Yes, I’d try to pair up with another odd-numbered party. I’m sure that there are plenty of dads willing to help out too. We are a party of 3 and I know my husband doesn’t care who sits beside him on rides. Either of us would be happy to help if we saw the OP’s party!

It might be best to just plan not to go on this ride this trip. You'll still have a ton of fun!

yes, that’s what I said. Their family cannot ride with only the 5 of them.

We have the same issue as we have 4yo twins and a DS that will be just shy of 7. It’s really frustrating and the “well I guess this just isn’t the right time for a trip” comments aren’t helpful. SDD and barnstormer are 2 other strictly 2 seater coasters that we’ll have to just hope it works out for. We do have one twin who’s a bit cautious and may not want to even ride but we’re going in assuming everyone will want to. Hoping we meet a kind family of 3 in line willing to ride with our son.

The poster was saying maybe skip the ride. Not that families shouldn’t go on a trip because of it. Odds are pretty good that a family of 3 will be able help.

Oh I know, I wasn’t directing that at the poster above but referring back to when I was told that maybe I should not plan a trip this year when I asked about it on another thread. I think we would be fine if we had to skip a ride, but I can also see how that might be disheartening for families that may only go once or twice in the span of a decade. Hopefully it will work out for us with odd numbers of young ones. I actually read that SDD will have every seat filled due to popularity so chances are good that an under 7 will have an adult to ride with as long as they’re not afraid to ride with a stranger. Not ideal but a solution.
