going to WDW in January and can't decide where to stay. There will be my husband and I, his parents and our 4 kids. Our youngest will be 18 months so we need space for a pack n play. Our original thoughts were to get two Little Mermaid rooms at AOA but now we are thinking we might need a little more space. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking you will need a two bedroom for sure. Maybe a little mermaid suite plus a standard room attached (if it's possible) for the grandparents. Have a great trip!

Also don't rule out renting a vacation home. We've done this a couple times, 5 minutes from Disney, 6 bedroom houses with pool (ours was for $299 a night).... Windsor hills is the neighborhood. Very pretty homes.

The Little Mermaid rooms are standard rooms, 2 double beds, not Suites. There are Finding Nemo, Cars and Lion King Suites. And the Suites are all in separate buildings than the Standard Little Mermaid rooms so it's isn't possible that they are near each other.

Thanks for the correction, never have stayed there. they still will need more room I'm thinking..... We had 6 people and got a 2 bedroom at BLT and still felt a little squished.

Unless you are set on staying on site, I would rent a vacation home as was mentioned above. There tons of choices in Windsor Hills, about 10 minutes off property. We rented through All Star Vacation Homes (I have no relationship other than renting).

My Inlaws are set on staying on site. They went in April and stayed off site and said parking was a major hassle. I think staying at Disney is part of the "experience" as well..the houses do look nice though!

You could rent DVC points and stay in a villa. Much cheaper than booking direct with Disney. You'll get multiple bedrooms, a kitchen, washer/dryer and all the benefits of staying onsite for about the price of a mod. No daily housekeeping though. Dvcbyrequest is a sponsor of this board. I've rented out my points with him and rented from him.

You could do a two bedroom. Or you could do a two bedroom and add s studio for your in laws.

You could consider Fort Wilderness cabin? This is nice resort with boat/bus to MK. A 2 bedroom at one of the DVC villa resorts such as Beach Club, Saratoga Springs, Old Key West etc. Or a Tree House Villa at Saratoga Springs. It depends on budget. I think the Fort cabins are good value. But only one bathroom.

We are looking into this but it seems very confusing! I'm sure once I do some more research I will start to understand it better :)

David's DVC rents DVC points as well as other companies. Go to his site (google it) and they have a points/$ calculator. Some accomodations are tough to get as they are very popular. We got a Boardwalk Villa studio for $243 a night. Booked 11 months ahead for this November.

Once you do some reading it will be pretty clear.

They are also very helpful over the phone. Give them a call. They will walk you through it. The villa accommodation will be so comfortable. I love having a kitchen and laundry. Separate bed for mom and dad.

For her dates, it may be too late to rent DVC. January is well within the 7 month window, and if her dates include marathon, those dates are quite full.

DVC works best if you are planning 7+ months in advance.

Will your in laws want total privacy? Or are they open to "hosting" kids to sleep in their room? Seems like maybe two connecting rooms could work at a resort with Queen beds (perhaps with the 5th bed/couch option?). I could be wrong but I *think* the values full sized beds?

Or you could do a AOA suite for your family and have your in laws stay in a Little Mermaid room. I know it would be different ends of the resort, but sometimes space away can be nice too.

Yes but Saratoga and old key west have lots of January availability. DVC can be booked last minute. It is worth the enquiry. I just booked DVC at two weeks notice for a week. No split stay.

I would book two rooms at a resort you like and is in your budget. Grandparents would want their own room but they do like to be close to their family. :)

We have stayed in a 2 br villa with our grown children and grandchildren, but we have always taken the master bedroom and given them the 2nd bedroom and the sofa bed. :) After all, we were paying for it. ;) Old Key West has huge rooms with two queen beds in the second bedroom. You can often get that resort with a big discount if you don't want to rent points. But it might not be cheaper than staying in two rooms at a value or moderate resort.

Grandparents know that they will share room with kids. They don't care. Last time we had two adjoining rooms and one kid always slept with them. Now we have another kid..lol..and she's only 18 months so we just want to make sure we can fit a pack n play in possibly an area that's closed off for when she sleeps. I have been reading on David's and it's quite helpful!

I think you missed the comment about marathon weekend. Those dates are pretty booked up, including OKW and SSR.

You have a lot of options. You could look into the family suites at AoA or even ASMu. They both hold 6 guests plus one infant and would guarantee that you are all together. A 2-bedroom villa at a DVC resort would work, but will definitely price out higher than a family suite. 2 rooms at a mod or deluxe would fit your family, but they won't guarantee that your rooms will connect or even be near each other. You could also book a cabin at Ft. W.
