Help! Where should I take the family on vacation?

The Plan WAS: Take sister/dh, brother/dw, niece/dh, nephew/dw, mom and brother to HHI in May. We would get a studio for each of them (6 studios total) and a 2 bedroom for us. This would be a Sunday check in for 5 nights.

In planning, I forgot one minor detail. Flying to Savannah Sun - Friday is considered a business fair. The price is almost $600 each. Nobody, including us, is willing to pay that. Sister is a travel agent and said the price just isn't going to go down. We need a Saturday night stay.

Problem: Don't have anywhere near enough points for everyone to stay on the weekend. So, now what??

1. Book elsewhere for Saturday night and everyone pays cash?

2. Rent points and stay in another timeshare on HHI for a week paying cash for everyone with the money I get from renting points?

3. Skip the whole idea and take dh and kids for two weeks!!! lol

4. Rent points and take the whole family somewhere else that is easier to get to/cheaper. But where?? Not Disney. The entire family hates Disney. It is amazing I actually still consider them family!! lol I really don't want to do VB because I just didn't think there was enough to do there.

Any suggestions, advice? Thanks!

I'd just fly into Savannah on Saturday and get a motel nearby, then check into HH on Sunday- just as you've planned.

Your other options would also work- but there are certainly inexpensive motels available for a Sat night stay.

Thanks, Doc. I know that would be the simple thing to do but I HATE moving so much! Plus, I am SO picky about where we stay. It has to be top notch clean because both of my kids have severe asthma and hotels tend to really bother them. I trust DVC properties to *usually* be clean plus I go crazy and clean when we first arrive! But, it would probably be the cheapest, easiest solution...................

We just returned from HHI 2 weeks ago. We flew into Savannah on Sat and stayed downtown on Bay Street. On the way home our flight was cancelled (after we were already boarded) due to weather so we had to get another hotel. Near the airport there are several new hotels and they are building several. That might be an option since they will hopefully be somewhat clean after only 9 months of use. It could also save you a day in rental car fees by taking a shuttle to the hotel and then back to the airport Sun morning to rent your car.

We loved HH so I would stongly recommend it if you haven't tried it. We had 5 kids 1,4,7,8&9 that loved the beach, beach house, and swimming pool. I think it is now our favorite resort and we might even buy a resale! It was really relaxing.

Have fun with where ever you decide to go.

Two years ago, because we were using FF miles, we had to have a Sat. night stay. We flew into Savannah on an afternoon flight and stayed at the Fairfield Inn right by the Savannah airport. Very nice and clean. The next morning, we went downtown and did a bus tour before going on to HH. We really enjoyed doing this since we had not been to Savannah in many, many years.
