I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. What do you do when you have purchased your hopper tickets in advance (non-refundable) and will not be able to use them? Any advice?
Thanks.

Park hoppers? You can use them anytime in the future.... so that's what I'd do with them. Save them to use in the future. Surely you don't mean you can't use them EVER??

I bought my 7 day PHP from Paramount about 1 1/2 months ago for a trip in Sept. I was very happy with the price I paid. Now WDW comes out with the Fairytale Package.
So I bit the bullett and made FTP ressies and I'll just hold the PHP until a future visit.
At least I know my tickets will already be paid for. And it might get me back to WDW sooner. ;)

Unfortunately, we don't get to Disney very often...only once in about 5 or 6 years. And, I could really use the cash I laid out for the tickets. I suppose, if worse comes to worse, it will force (LOL) another trip to Disney.

Just remember to calculate your listing fees and their percentage in your asking price so you can come out even.

I was afraid that was why you were asking but hoping not. I know you aren't supposed to resell them and doubtful that they'll refund you since they are nonrefundable.... so you're kinda stuck. :(

If you havent used any of the days you can sell them on Ebay. Check out the "Ebay your way to Disney" thread for some great tips on selling. Many times I have glanced through WDW passes that are for sale there to see that the seller gets most of the original(if not the whole price) back by selling them.

Ebay's Ticket Page

Once at the EBay page you can click a link near the top on the right for "How to Sell Tickets" To see current auctions for Disney passes click Theme Parks in the box to the left. Once there use the small basic search box to search for "Disney" and it will give you only Disney related tickets. Its amazing what people will pay for a 1 day hopper.

Already tried ebay. Put a reserve on (still losing money) and didn't even come close. It amazes me when people will pay $20.00 for an $11.00 food voucher and not recognize a good deal on passes when one is offered. Anyway, thanks for the support.

If you want to sell the, I think you have to expect to lose money ... why would someone want to pay you more to buy tickets than they can purchase them from a place like Ticketmania or AAA?

If you want to sell them on Ebay you should recognize that there is no better measure of the value of an item than Ebay, so whatever they're worth is what folks are going to bid ... you're not going to find anywhere else where you can sell them to millions of shoppers.

My suggestion for listing them on Ebay would be:

1) Start the bidding at 1 penny (there's no way they're going to sell for this, someone is going to bid them up and quick, but that's what you want is bids. An item at $100 with 4 bids is going to draw more attention than an item with a starting bid of $100).

2) Don't list with a reserve. This type of item will sell for what it's worth on Ebay ... many bidders do not like reserves and will not bid on an auction with a reserve. Either you need to sell these tickets or you don't, if you put them on Ebay you're going to get what they're worth.

3) Run a 10 day auction to assure maximum exposure for your auction.

According to eBay's TOS ticket media can not be sold for more than face value and some states are excluded from purchasing. You may want to try a free want ad service in your community to sell them at face value.
Good luck.

I think selling them locally might work too. Work up and ad that lists the discounted price -- like "15% off" or "20% off" or whatever. This may catch someone's eye! Good luck.

KATHY,
I COULD REALLY USE THOSE PHP. MY FAMILY AND I ARE GOING TO DISNEY JUL 17- 22. I HAD ALREADY PURCHASED MY PLANE TICKETS BEFORE THE FTP CAME OUT AND IT WILL COST ME $100 PER TICKET TO MAKE ANY CHANGES TO THEM. THEREFORE MY FAMILY AND I DECIDED TO BUY PHP. I'VE NEVER BOUGHT ANYTHING ONLINE BECAUSE I'M AFRAID OF GETTING RIPPED OFF. BUT, HOW MUCH WOULD YOU CONSIDER SELLING THEM FOR?

Sincerely,
disneyqt

Disneyqt, Fari warning. The mods are going to ask you to take this off line since you can't do for sells on here.

If I were the original poster I would look around at work, church, school etc and see if you can't find a family going and see if you can make a deal. (I know it is illegal, but....) I would probably be more likely to buy a ticket from someone I knew personally then over ebay! I would NEVER buy a disney ticket on ebay since you can't tell if it has been used.

In reality of course, selling your Disney tickets may be taboo amongst the crowd, but is certainly not illegal. Disney rules don't qualify as laws. People are allowed to sell their own property and the folks at Disney are not trying to crack down on people like this selling to a friend. They are trying to protect their monopoly and licensing fees they gather from "approved" vendors. If the ticket market were flooded with disney tickets from many sellers, Disney would no longer be able to make these fees.

Illegal or not, it is against the DIS Guidelines for Posting that there be For Sale or Wanted to Buy posts on our Boards. (I have e-mailed disneyqt to ask them to remove their post.)

I was under the impression that it WAS illegal to resell any ticket media in the state of Florida, so I think that it depends on which state you are in whether it is illegal or not.

In reality, it is of course legal to sell tickets, but illegal to Scalp tickets, or in other words sell them for more than face value. Disney has a problem in this area in that they sell tickets with no "face value" printed on them and at different prices to defferent segments of the population, (i.e. at a discount to club members and at their resorts). They also sell to re-sellers who put new values on them. I am unaware of any successful charge ever brought against the seller of Disney tickets, but would love to see the case. If anyone does know of any, please let me know. As I said earlier, you are the legal owner of your tickets and although Disney can have rules against re-selling them to another, it is not illegal and would never stand up.
