Flight to take off 3PM tomorrow land in Orlando at 6PM!

My travel agent says the flight is definitly in danger of possible cancellation.

Should I - take the chance with the flight and possibly miss out on Disney!

OR

Leave ASAP and drive down - making it to Orlando before the storm hits hard!

HELP! Need to make the decision within an hour!

Why not just take a saturday flight instead??? you'll spend tons of time driving...and flying might be just fine...I'd wait it out and see....the storms don't seem to be horribly strong...

by the time you get there if you drive would be the same time a Sat flight would get you in...i say go to airport and cross your fingers

I would definitely advice against driving. Either take your chance on your flight being able to 'fly around' the storm/hurricane, or take another flight the following day. Good luck!!

Yea - Saturday flights are booked though! We are also looking at spending the cash and getting down there tonight via plane!

Its a tough call because you just dont know what the storm will do!

If we miss our flight - we can reuse our tickets up to a year - if it gets cancelled we get our money back - so - its kind of a no lose situation there.

My travel agent already informed me that if it is cancelled there is no guarentee ill get out Friday night or even Saturday! Yikes!

If you can get out tonight...then go go go .....

well i'd drive...if the flights are all booked you now through Sat you probably won't get out till Sunday at the earliest & will have missed and i believe paid for nights at wdw you won't get unless you could change the date for a few days later.( not sure how they handle it for hurricanes but unless they close down i doubt they will do anything about it and i thought less than 5 days out you lose your deposit). we always drive, take 2 days( about 20 hrs total for us) don't try to do it straight through. it's not that bad if you stop overnight.

Just so you know-- we are already getting heavy rain in NC from Bonnie and it will be tough driving the whole way. We are supposed to have a rain break on Sat morning before the CHarlie rain starts. Good Luck.

UGH!
After being in WDW during a hurricane and trying to get home the following day (a usual 3 hour flight took us 12 hours... 2 flights, lots of driving, rental car fees, etc...) I would say go NOW and drive. ;)
Best of luck to you.

Yeah, I agree: go now! Either fly tonight, or start driving today. The weather channel says the heaviest rain and wind will be Friday, so if you start driving tonight, drive all day Friday, and roll into FL by Saturday.

I also agree with the previous poster: at least driving you won't get held up or delayed. At the airport, who knows.

*EDIT: I just realized that coming from NYC, you'll probably be in the path the hurricaine is currently projected for! If you can take any alternative routes that are more westward, that would be better. The best thing, imo, would be to fly out tonight. Best of luck!!

Here is the update!

Thanks for all your insight - I love these Boards!

After calling my airline 5 times today - I got my flight changed to tonight. I am leaving work in a short time and will be with Mickey as planned! YAY! Thanks to you all and may your dreams come true!

Nick

how exciting, have a MAGICAL time! see, the storm gave you an extra day w/Mickey!!! :)

Okay.. maybe i'm just a bit dense but I don't understand why anyone would be in a hurry to rush down to Florida now? So you can be in a Hurricane?

I just don't get it. Anyway, anyone who is going down, just stay safe.

Well, if I had to be in a hurricane, there's no place else I'd rather be. I'm sure WDW is going to be ultra-prepared and secure.

The hurricane should be over in a few days anyway. Why waste a perfectly planned vacation. Have a wonderful time NickUnited! Let us know how it goes!

I will - I am leaving for the Airport in a bit

Mymatisse

You are correct but here is my reasoning. I love this place - I have been looking forward to the vacation for months. My original plan had me landing tomorrow night. Waking up Saturday and going to parks!

If my flight got cancelled tomorrow - I risk the chance of not getting out of NY until Sunday! Not to good! At least tonight - I can check in to AKL early and if it hits be in the resort safe and sound! Then still be at the parks saturday when the storm passes! Thats my reasoning - Ill let you know how it goes!!!!

And believe me Disney is prepared for everything. In April we went on the Backstage Safari tour, and learned about all the hurricane preparations they have for the AK animals. They even knew who would ride out the storms with the animals!

I agree with Mymatisse. Err on the side of caution. Possibly entering dangerous weather because Disney is a "magical" place.
Reminds of the time all the people urged the guy to go even though he said he could not afford it.

Nickunited..

were you able to get a room for tonight and a way from the airport to Disney? Just wondering because, I am down here in Fl. and friends in Orlando say it is rainy there now,,,,Just be safe,,,,,what hotel are you in??
THIS IS A MAJOR HURRICANE----- they have now put TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS ON THE EAST COAST,,so thas BOTH coast with ORLANDO in the middle!!!!!

Tink

They are saying that it could be a catagory 3 by the time it hits fla. Look at the "charlie is upgraded to hurricane" thread. I posted a explanation of the catagories. Andrew was a 5 when it hit fla so it is not going to be that much devestation but I would not want to be driving in it. Remember whatever is on the right side of the storm gets the worst wind and rain.

Good Luck!
