Help!!! We are having a terrible time trying to decide between WCC and Kona cafe!!! I know they are different dining styles, but beyond that, what did all of you think of them??? Thanks so much!!!! ;)

I am trying WCC for the first time on our upcoming trip.
Kona Cafe dinner was a great meal last August. My son and I both loved our dishes and we had good service. So good that the whole family will be eating there on our next trip.

We were stuck in the back at WCC with a server who didn't seem really interested in being there. We were right next to the door to the kitchen, too, so it was a fairly busy corridor (back near the fireplace, if you've been there before). We won't be going back to WCC any time soon, even though the food was decent.

ugh...sorry to hear about your experience. Thanks for sharing it with me though!

We haven't eaten at WCC but I can heartily rec. Kona! :goodvibes We eat there once, or twice, each trip. It's one of my DM favs. too-she insists that we eat there every since we tried it on our first trip with DDP in Jan. 05. We usually have one of our first, if not our first, dinners there and that way we can eat there again if it works out. I could make a meal out of the sticky chicken wings. :cloud9: My DD7 likes them too.

Hope this helps. Happy Dining!

Hello-

Well I would look at transport issues. Where are you coming from when you head to dinner that day?

Since your DD is 5, I think the antics at WCC could really be fun if she isn't too shy. We are going to try it and my DS is 6.

People rave about Kona, but I figure this trip is to blow the kid's mind with some WDW magic. I can eat at the nicer restaurants some other time.

Have fun!:hippie:

We've not been to WCC for a few years, however we just went to Kona Cafe this morning while DS was on the pirate cruise and it was fantastic. DH had Stuffed French Toast and I had 2 eggs w/toast and potato and it was delicious. It is casual but the food is good and plenty. Give it a try!

Thanks for all the info everyone!!! I am really having a hard time with this one!!! We always have a car so transportation is not a problem!!! Good thing I have some time before we go!!! :rolleyes1

We've eaten at WCC three times and Kona twice.

I think WCC has gone downhill in recent years; our food and service were not nearly as good there in 2006 as previously. Because no one "loved" it, we aren't returning there this time. If we stayed at WL, I'd eat there again, but otherwise, it's not worth the time to get over there.

Kona is better food and we had better service there. Our dinner was so good we returned for lunch a couple of days later.

On our upcoming trip, we'll be eating at Kona but not at WCC. All 3 kids and DH requested Kona when I was planning ADRs for this trip, so we'll be there again in July!

Thanks Tam...good to hear you have been to both!!! I see you are also in Chicagoland!!!! Wishing you were in the watm weather right about now???? :wizard:

My DS4 and I went to WCC in 2005 and had a great time. We were seated next to the reception desk. Close enough to enjoy all the action.
I booked WCC again for our 2006 vacation and had an awful time. We were seated at the tables overlooking the lobby. No action whatsoever! Very boring for a 5 year old boy (and his mother).
I did not make an ADR for our upcoming trip.
If you do go make sure you request a table in the main dining room.
On the other hand, we loved Kona.

We've eaten at both places, but I vote for the Kona!
We have breakfast at the Kona cafe at least twice every time we go to WDW!

In my opinion Kona has more original dishes than eggs and pancakes and their coffee is wonderful! Some of the great dishes are: Tonga Toast, Pancakes with pineapple and macadamia nuts, Big Kahuna, etc.

You might want to look at the menus for this places as well- that might help with your decision!

ENJOY!!

I haven't been to Kona Cafe (but want to try it!) but i was INCREDIBLY disappointed with WCC a few weeks ago. Our server was nice, but the woman who coordinated the children's activities was HORRIBLY disinterested in what she was doing...to the point that everyone at our table was staring at eachother in disbelief. :confused3

we thought the food was pretty overpriced for what we got...my chicken was greasy and we were all pretty much let down by the experience. i hadn't written anything about the boards about our experience...until i saw your thread! :) good luck with your decision...and if you do go to WCC, i hope you have a better experience than we did! :rotfl2:

Definitely Kona over WCC. The food at Kona is much better, and you don't have to contend with the idiocy of the WCC servers. :rolleyes1

Kona Cafe is incredible. We ate 8 TS meals last Sept. including Le Cellier, O'hana, Wolfgang Pucks, Concourse Steakhouse, and several others and Kona was the best food by far. We had 2 small children and they did fine. Sevice was great and we were able to eat and get back to MK without any waiting around on food or check. Kona is on our list of must eats from now on. Never been to WCC but menu just does not excite me at all. Have fun and if you go to Kona try the Mahi Mahi-incredible!!!

Thanks Tam...good to hear you have been to both!!! I see you are also in Chicagoland!!!! Wishing you were in the watm weather right about now???? :wizard:

Yes! It's horrible, and it appears the cold will be here for a few days.

My kids love Kona! It's very kid friendly, and the Polynesian is nice for kids. Plus, some kids (including my middle DS) do not like the noise in WCC.

Thanks to everyone for their help!! I knew I'd get good advice. Just got off the phone from booking Kona! We love the Poly anyways (this is the first year we will not be going to Ohana...trying all new places! ) Thanks again for all the great guidance! :thumbsup2
