I am interested in buying into the DVC on resale. While searching I found that Vero is the cheapest per point. Would I have less benefits from purchasing Vero as my home. Of course, I lose the 3 month advance reservation (12-9 Months) for reserving outside my home. Why would I pay more for Boardwalk? Boardwalk is my 1st choice!

Is there anything stopping Disney from increasing the amount of points per night cost? Have they increased them yet?

Has anyone heard of Disney starting a new plan where you could buy shows/dinner/passes using points?

What advice could be suggested while purchasing the number of points?

Who would be the best re-seller?

Thanks for any answers!

P.s.
I did read through quite a bit of of faq thread but couldn't find these answers.

If your first choice is Boardwalk, then definitely buy Boardwalk points on resale!!!!! Do NOT buy Vero points and expect to always be able to use them at BWV. BWV is very popular and getting ressies at the 7 month window sometimes is close to impossible. The advice you will always see here is to buy points where you want to stay the most! That four month reservation window can be VERY important!! Vero's points might be cheaper to buy but the maintenance fees there are much higher--and those fees can add up over the years.

The total number of points cannot change--so if Disney increases the number of points required in one area, it must lower the points required in another. I can only remember one time when the points were readjusted and it was very minimally. I'm sorry I am not explaining this well. I'm sure someone will do a better job.

Haven't heard of any plans to buy dinners, tickets etc with points..

To determine the number of points you need, you must consider how you like to vacation. Do you think you will go to WDW every year, twice a year, every other year??? How long do you like to stay?? How large is your family? That gives you a starting point. My advice is to buy as many points as you can reasonable afford. Once you start using them, you never seem to have enough.

We bought resale through the Timeshare Store and had absolutely no problem. Excellent service. Our rep was Shontell, who now has her own business. She also posts here on the DVC Board. I'm sure she could answer many questions for you.

I agree, if you really want to stay at BWV then be sure to buy there. The window for reservations for home resort is 11 months and outside your home resort is 7 months (not 12 and 9). The 4 month advantage is really neccessary with BWV, especially if you ever plan on obtaining a standard view room. It can be very tough getting reservations at certain WDW resorts at the 7 month window. The times that WDW are busy are not always the same for DVC. It has become very difficult getting reservations at times like holidays, the first two weeks of December, and much of October and November (due to the Food and Wine Festival). Also the dues at Vero are the highest of all resorts. So any savings that you would inccur now will be spent in dues for the upcoming years. Strat looking for BWV resales. I think that you will be happier in the long-run.

I'll emphasize as well, DO NOT buy VB just because of price. The dues are much higher and many who own there have reported problems doing what you propose. I've never heard any rumors from DVC about using points like cash. The only place I've heard it discussed is from members. I'm not sure that those adversely affected by the rebalancing previously would think it was minimal, a studio in Adventure season went from 69 to 80 points with minimal decreases in other areas. That's a 14-16% difference depending on whether you compare to before or after. Below is a copy of something I've posted several times. It's easier for me to repost than look for the other threads and like them.

There are lots of places to find contracts. Besides
The Timeshare store, atimeshares.com and Lee Reid's
site that are the "specialists". I used ERA Stroman
and have now bought 2 expensive timeshare through
them and had two other contacts that didn't go
through. I had a previous BW contract that DVC
bought back and a Paradise Village contract that
fell through because the seller owed more on it than
he agreed to sell it for and couldn't come up with
his part.

At ERA stroman, I worked mainly with Steve Scott
(800) 733-8846 x3149. I also worked earlier with
Jaunita Jones on the PV contract. Steve was willing
in all cases to make the low ball offers and it
seems to be candid with both the seller and buyer
from what I could tell. It is my belief that the
big 3, especially TSS and atimeshares seem to jack
up the price. I'm not saying that's wrong, just
that it's not in the buyers best interest.

I'd also look at Timeshare Users Group (TUG),
http://www.floridavip.com/central.htm (a FSBO site
specializing in FL), Century 21 in Kissimmee as well
as canvas the timeshare world in general. Try also
timeshares.com and http://TIMESHARESDIRECT.com/ and
Sharon Eden at http://www.timesharesUSAresales.com/.
Also consider Shontell Crawford who was at TSS and
now on her own info@TimesharesByResale.com or toll free at 1-800-844-4099. The Timeshare Warehouse has some DVC inventory at http://www.Thetimesharewarehouse.com.

Contact many, tell them what you want and how much
you are willing to pay and see what happens. Good
luck.

Cant be said enough....... buy where you want to stay! If BWV is the home in your heart.... buy there! Trust us!

As for whom to purchase from.... one of the sponcers of this board, the time share store has been used by many people. We used Jaki Apetz at www.atimeshare.com with great success.

Which ever broker you decide to go with, I strongly suggest calling them and letting them know how many points, the price you want to pay and use year, if you have a preferance.... a lot of the best contracts (IE banked points, lower point cost etc) never make it to their web sites....

Good luck and have fun finding your perfect BWV contract! It is out there..... it just may take a couple of weeks to track it down!

Is there anything stopping Disney from increasing the amount of points per night cost?

Disney can change the points per night, but if they increase a specific night they must decrease another so that the total points needed for a week do not change.

As I understand it.

Just throw my 2 cents. We bought at Vero because it was cheaper. We have NEVER had a problem making reservations within the 7 month window at the other resorts.

Last year, for example, we booked the VWL for 11 nights in May. Had 4 nights we were waitlisted, but they came through within a month of making the reservation.

We just made ressies at BCV for 14 nights in May and got the WHOLE THING. No waitlist.

So I would say buy whats cheapest.

DVC Couple PA---the reason you never had a problem because you made reservations in May plus post 9/11 is here and I think that has changed things for a very long time regarding attendance at WDW. I would not buy Vero if you want to make reservations at the more popular times of the year even post 9/11

I'll put my 2 cents in a BWV owner. I always book at the 11 month window for an August trip. Next year we need to go in July, being in a routine I forgot to book at the 11 months for July but instead booked at 10 months out. Booking at the 10 months meant I got only preferred view vs. standard and 2 nights were already waitlisted.

I wouldn't risk it BWV is too popular.

I'm with the group that says buy where you are going to want to stay. We bought 300 points at Boardwalk and love it. When we first started talking add on we thought about VWL, but didn't care for it as much when we stayed there. We just bought a 100 point add on at Vero. My in-laws love it there and those 100 points can get them 5 nights Sun-Thur in the seasons they like to go. In addition we can use it for small Vero trips ourself or when we decide to trade out for something.

Don't buy Vero just to save money. If you want to stay at Boardwalk then look for a resale there.
