Hi. I REALLY want to stay at WL or BC but don't think we can afford it. I have AAA and I am waiting for the new deals to come out after the new year (want to go sometime in June or July)...anyone have any suggestions?!?

June and July are both really busy months, not sure if they fall under "peak" season or not though. If you have AAA, you can contact them, check mousesavers.com for discount codes, or you could check into an AP if it's worth it for your family. ( I think the "break even" point of an AP is 8 days for a regular one and 14 for a premium, someone correct me if I'm wrong!).

What about doing a split stay? Maybe staying at one of the values for most of the time you are there and then spend your last night or two at WL or BC?

Go over to the DVC board and post your request for points on the DVC trade board. You have to work out a deal with the DVC owner. You will have to pay for the whole thing up front is the only drawback but it will be cheaper. Also consider going Sunday thru Thursday as it will be cheaper.

Good Luck!

Actually, June through the fourth of July is regular season, and the rest of July is value season for the deluxe resorts.

A week at BCV or VWL would set you back 111 points. At the going rate of $10 per point, you would pay $1100 for the week inclusive of taxes. That's the equivalent of about $140 per night plus taxes. If you want to do a split stay, you can go for a Sunday-Friday DVC stay and it would only be 55 points or the equivalent of $98 pre-tax. That's cheaper than a moderate.

I think that the point totals that the previous poster quoted were for OKW, not VWL and BCV. For those resorts it would be 132 pts.(eqivalent to $1320, $188.57 per night) for a week in a studio and 70 pts.(eqiv. to $700, $140 per night) for 5 nights Sun.-Thurs. nights in a studio. Fridays and Saturdays are always a lot more points. These point totals were for dates between June 11 and July 31. The point values are different for some of the different DVC resorts. With the studio you also get a wet bar(including a sink, refrigerator, and microwave) and either 2 queen beds or a queen bed and a queen sleeper sofa.

We own at VWL and have used our points there and at several other DVC locations. They are a great place to stay and VWL is by far our favorite.

Have a great time where ever you decide to stay!!

The studios at VWL and BCV have a queen bed and a full-size sleeper sofa. The only DVC studios with 2 queen beds are at OKW. To get a queen-size sleeper sofa you have to move up to a 1BR villa which would cost about twice as many points as a studio, but you would get a much larger villa with separate BR, LR and full kitchen and a king bed in the BR.

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions! I am going to look into renting points vs. my AAA discount for end of July (value season). I don't think the S-TH stay would work for us because we like to go minimum of 8 days.

Once again thanks! Hope everyone has a great Holiday season!!!

then use both

for Sun-thur stay use DVC point

for fri/sat stays use AAA discount.

they may make you check in and out - but lots of time you can still get the same room

just be sure when you check in that the front desk knows you want the same room.

Close. It was for a Standard View studio at BWV. I thought I changed over to a Preferred View for my calculations, but I didn't.

If the OP really wants to stay at BC or WL, then she could stay 5 days (Su-F) in a DVC studio and then the rest of her time in a Value or Moderate. Or, use her AAA discount on the weekends.

Question for "Domestic Goddess." Do you know of anyone who has or do you have any DVC points available for the VWL for Sunday, May 7th thru Friday, May 12th? What would the price difference be between a studio and a 1 BR? Exactly what does the studio have in the kitchen area? A sink, coffee maker, fridge, toaster, and microwave??

Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ericafny-Also check out the budget boards-they have some good ideas for saving up!! :cool1:
