Help w/Stateroom Decision - 1st Cruise

Thanks for the pics & explanations. The white wall and navigator verandas might actually work better for us as we don't have to worry about our kids (especially the little one) climbing on the railing. It's a nice bonus that they would cost us less!

All railings, whether plexiglass or whitewall, have the rails on the outside of the solid wall.

Just be aware that for some navigator and white wall verandahs, you might not be able to see the ocean while seating down.

Are there any verandah cabins that connect to an oceanview cabin? That would be ideal as we probably only need 1 verandah, but can benefit from the space of 2 cabins.

We are also a family of five. I just cannot give up my verandah! It is why I cruise . .. I can just stare at the turquoise waters forever... it's when I'm truly in my happy place! Our first three cruises , we had the deluxe family verandah , plenty of room , and especially on the Fantasy , the set up was even roomier. This, our fourth, cruise we booked two rooms: a Navigators verandah and a standard inside room with magical porthole on the Dream. I think it will be the best of all worlds! It was a few hundred dollars more, but my husband really wanted the two bathrooms , and I got my verandah! My advice for you would be to do the same or just go with the Verandah room.... it's your first cruise . ... it'll really be worth it! Just my two cents! Either way , have the best time!!

The two cabins you booked are not connected, correct? If we are going to do two cabins (likely depending on availability and actual cost at time of booking), we need them connected because our kids are too young to have no semi-adult supervision.

They are not adjoining (are across the hall) but we plan to have my husband in one and me in the other . So at no point will any of our kids be alone (although that may not be what you are looking for ).

Actually "across the hall" is considered adjoining.

Adjoining rooms/cabins can be across the hall directly or diagonally OR next to each other but without a door between.

The term for rooms/cabins with a door between them is "connecting".

That is pretty standard across the hospitality industry - at least in the US.

I'm going to put in my vote for the verandah as well. We were on the dream last month in a verandah cabin that slept 5 and even though we were only 4, we used the Murphy bed every night for me!

We had also cruised Princess this summer with 4 in a balcony cabin and the difference between the two cabins was huge! The Disney cabin felt like a small hotel room, we never felt cramped at all.

The Murphy bed is only down after you come back for the night after dinner so it doesn't really get in the way and it is still possible to go out on the balcony with it down, I did so every night.

The bathroom is already split with two sinks so someone can be showering while the other bathroom can be used by someone else who needs to go or just brushing teeth, getting ready, etc. DH often used the shower in the gym with no issues. We are also a family with an open door bathroom policy so it was not a big deal to us at all to only have one bathroom, though really it's more like two since they are two separate rooms.

For me there is no way I'd exchange the guaranteed awesomeness of a verandah on the off chance two family members might need to pee or shower at the same time. It's really not that hard at all to go up or down a couple of decks to use the bathroom if needed or to use the gym shower.

We have stayed in all cabins at one time or another. We used to stay in one verandah cabin when our kids were very young (on the Magic) but as they got older we opted for 2 cabins. I find the connecting oceanviews to be a good value. We don't need to have a verandah and I love having the extra space and our older teens could come in later without waking us up. While we got up earlier we would not wake them up either.

I prefer oceanviews to insides as insides mess with my internal clock but that is just me. Now when we cruise they pick their own cabins as they are adults with their own families!

I have to say that the 9D's on deck 7 & 8 all the way forward on the Dream class ships are huge. I love those cabins. Some don't like them as they have slanted ceiling but I find them cozy. We had my us in cabin 8502 forward and our daughter's family in 8504 (huge corner room) and they had tons of room for the pack n play and for the baby to walk around and play. Our room was large too (not as big as theirs) but a nice space for the pack n play for sleepovers. The doors are angled to each other (our door faced forward, their door face port but were only a few inches apart. We got keys to each other rooms to make access easy. I also love being forward.
