I could use some help getting a good deal on a rental car in two weeks. Going to be in Orlando the last week of July. I guess I am spoiled by Priceline the past two summers. Last year bid got a compact for $11/day in June and the year before last was in Ft. Meyers and I think bid accepted around $15ish per day. So I put some bids out last week up to around $30 for a compact or midsize and still rejected. I was hoping to pay $200 - $250 per week for the car including taxes ect. Is that doable? I see I could get something for a little over $300 on Hotwire.

Thanks so much!!!!!!!

If you have Costco or a BJ's card you can save some. The cars seem to be high this year.

Guess I just have to accept things are going to be double what I got on priceline last couple of years. I tried again this morning on priceline and got $28/day for a midsize accpeted with Avis. A bit cheaper then what I see on Hotwire and much cheaper then what I am seeing on the various websites even with codes.

Car prices are really BAD this year. I also am traveling the last week of July. If you can find something you can afford, then I advise to jump on it. You can still keep checking for lower prices up to the last possible minute. I made my reservations in Jan for July thru Alamo. I got a full size for 9 days for only $221. That was taxes and everything. In April I decided to add an extra day to my vacation and my rental jumped up to $267!!! I am so glad I still booked it because as of yesterday the cheapest I could find was still well over $400 on some sites and over $600 on alamo!!! :scared1: Funny thing is, I am still hopeful that up to the last possible minute, someone may beat my $267 price....but DH says "Dont bet on it" !!!

$28/day doesn't sound all that bad, assuming it's for a week, would be $250-260 w/ taxes and fees.

I also book the first thing I feel I could live with assuming nothing better comes along as the PP said, and continue to check daily right up to the time I board my flight.

Unfortunately sometimes in order to get the best deals you have to be willing to put in a lot of time and effort, and in most cases it will pay off.
There is no risk to booking rental cars directly with the company and as early as possible, if something better comes along you book it and cancel the other.

I think the days of $100/weekly rentals are long gone.
