Hello! :wave2:

My family and I are traveling to WDW in 26 days. :woohoo: Two members of my family, me being one of them, are on a very low fat diet for weight loss purposes. I am worried about finding low-fat or fat-free options on our upcoming trip to the World.

We have ADR's at the following restaurants:

~Whispering Canyon Cafe (Breakfast, Lunch)
~Le Chefs de France (Dinner)
~Sci-Fi Cafe (Lunch)
~Nine Dragons (Dinner)
~Crystal Palace (Dinner)
~Kona Cafe (Breakfast)

The only restaurant I am willing to go off-diet at is Kona Cafe, and that is for my favorite breakfast in the world; Tonga Toast. Otherwise, I would like to stay on my diet as much as possible.

Any tips or suggestions for finding low-fat or fat-free foods in WDW would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks,
Simon :wizard:

Well, at the buffets you'll have a salad, fruit, etc. Fruit also at breakfast, but I really didn't see many low fat options, to be truthful. Maybe some of the vegetarian, fish dishes???

Don't be afraid to ASK for what you want.

Want no oil on your fish... ASK!
Want a side broccoli instead of cheesy potatoes... ASK!
Sauce on the side... ASK!
Would rather have low fat milk... ASK!

Just like most restaurants... the ones at WDW will make adjustments.

The only problem I see is the family style places (like Whispering Canyon).... I would suggest ordering something individually off the menu... It might be a bit harder to get specialty stuff there... but ASK!!! The worst they can say is NO.

Eating healthy at Disney is NOT impossible. There are a ton of options...you just have to look for them and be strong and not cave in to that bucket of french fries or mashed potatoes :) I'm going to attempt to eat healthy when I'm downt here too. I eat pretty healthy at home so I want to keep it up. Especialy since we're doing deluxe dining! YIKES!

Here's my 2 cents:
For Chefs...
for an appetizer if you get one, try to stick with the Salade maison, dressing on the side. Don't get the blue cheese one. The goat cheese one would probably fall in the middle of the other two in terms of low fat. Also if you are craving a flat bread, I would reccommend the goat cheese and tomato one. The others have lots of cream, fried onions, etc.
for entrees, I would think the salmon dish is relatively healthy. avoid the snapper and scallops since those are sauteed and have a butter sauce.
out of all their meat entrees....their roasted chicken is very good. Just make sure you remember to peel off the skin and DO NOT eat it! :)
for dessert...the fresh fruit or sorbet would be your best bet. i've actually read a few places too that creme brulee is surprisingly not HORRIBLE for you. just a lot of sugar.

that's the only place i've eaten so far and can recommend! :) Have a great time and don't be too hard on yourself if you splurge a little!

Oops....a few more... I'm also eating at SciFi on my upcoming trip and I've already scoured the menus to see what I want to order...

Appetizer: honestly the salad is the only thing healhty. Again, dressing on the side, preferably vinigarette or just oil and vinegar.
For entrees, the grilled chicken sandwich. make sure no butter on the bread, and sub the fries for fruit or salad. The tofu sounds good but it's going to soak up all the oil that it was seared in so it's not that great of a healthy option. Also the turkey sandwich, minus the bacon and avocado mayo.

Don't be afraid to ASK for what you want.

I totally agree with this. And remember, restaurants sneak pounds of butter into just about anything. Ask for your vegetables steamed, not sauteed; dressing on the side of the salad; stay away from all sauces or see if they come on the side; at breakfast ask for egg whites or eggbeaters (all Disney restaurants have these, I think). Oh and stay away from the bread! It's not uncommon for restaurants to "brush" the bread with melted butter before serving.

But most of all-enjoy! It's great to want to stay on your diet and eat healthy, but it's definitely not something to stress over :goodvibes

Thank you so much! I've been over the menus of most of the restaurants in WDW, and we ended up selecting ones with healthier-looking options. I am going to print them before we go and select what I'm going to order in advance and what changes should be made, if any.

Thanks again! :)

1) I find that a good single malt scotch with a splash of water is good low-fat.
2) I couldn't find much else.

NOTE: On some WDW vacations, I have been to do A LOT of low fat.

I just wanted to wish you luck. I am also trying hard to watch my diet and I've been thinking about our upcoming trip and what to eat.

You can do it! :cheer2:

You can definitely eat healthy at WDW, it just takes some attention to detail. As a PP has already said, remember that how a dish is cooked is as important as what it is, so if you can get something without sauce or prepared without butter you can cut calories.

I am pretty anal when it comes to healthy eating and I found no problem anywhere on property. CP has a lot of healthy options, just remember to watch your portions at the buffets. A good tip is to use the smaller salad plates instead of the dinner plates when you go up.

It looks like you have your restaurants planned out but some I have found have a lot of healthy options are BOMA, Tusker House (AKA Boma Lite), Marrakesh, Kona (not so much breakfast), and The Wave.

You might want to consider checking out the WISH boards. I think I've seen you on there before but they will also have some tips for you.

Go for the kid's meals at counter service restaurants-- smaller portions=less calories.

And you can pick from a variety of sides like grapes, apples, jello, etc.

There are lots of healthy options at WDW.

I eat healthy all year and then splurge at WDW-- one week of goodies won't make a permanant difference in anyone's weight.
