I have read lots and I am considering FW Cabins , again. Would love to hear what you think about them? I have read in past things good and not so good, so I would again like to find out more.

We are family of 6- 4 kids and either will stay in the cabins or right now are staying at moderate hotel. Staying for 8 nights and on free DP!

I want easy access to parks, especially MK- we will go there 3 days at least! We will have our car too!

Thanks for the help!

Good things:

- You can park your car right at your cabin. No other place at WDW offers this perk. You can drive straight from your cabin to all the parks except MK. You're better off taking the boat or bus to MK than driving, since driving would put you at the TTC first. But to AK, EPCOT or MGM, driving would be a pretty nice option from your cabin.

- Boat to MK. Ok, it's a looong walk to the boat dock, or a bus ride away, but you can take a shared boat with WL to MK.

- Golf cart rentals. This would seem to alleviate most of the walking problems. Just take your cart from the cabin to the boat dock area, then cart back to the room when you get back from MK.

I'd go for the cabin. I've been wanting to try them for a long time now.

Do you know how much the golf cart rentals are? We are only staying in the cabins for 3 days before we move to BWV, but I know my DD9 would get a huge kick out of being able to ride around in a cart while we explore FW.

...but I did not enjoy the campground. It is a great campground, but I want my amenties close by and easy to use. The kids want a great pool site, not a rectangle in the ground. The transportation is a pain, so a car is a must. You can not drive to anything in the campground, you must use their inner-bus system.

I would go again, if winter, no interest in amenities and I needed to cook. But since you are on DDP, I couldn't justify the inconvenience of it. And since you are only going for 3 days, I really would rather be at a moderate.

I believe my friend told me she paid $40 a day for golf cart, sounds high to me ? I'm not sure that it would hold your whole family. Hopefully someone gets on and lets you know.

With four kids I think you would really appreciate the extra room of the cabin.
The bedroom will sleep four and then there is the pull down murphy bed in the living room. Even if you are on the dining plan it is nice to have the full kitchen for snacks and breakfast. Also the privacy is nice, if the kids are noisy you aren't so worried they are bothering the people below or above. I know people complain about the transportation but we have stayed there several times and never had to wait long for a bus. If you know you will be taking the bus alot and are all right with it, you won't have a problem. It is such a peacefull place, lots of nature and wildlife, and renting bikes is alot of fun. The campfires are also a nice perk for the kids. Have a nice trip whatever you decide.

I think the golf carts are $45 a day.

Here's info from Deb's allearsnet.com

Do I need a golf cart to get around inside Fort Wilderness and how much are they?

Fort Wilderness is a large resort area. The Fort Wilderness map says the campground is "one mile as the crow flies" long but some say it's more like 1.5 miles long, one-half mile wide. There are internal buses running within the campground to get you to the marina, the Trading Posts, pools, etc., but bus waits can be up to 20 minutes. It is very much of an advantage time-wise to either have bicycles or to have the electric golf carts. Carts can be rented for $44/day (or $12/hour) at the Bike Barn (407-824-2742); however, the supply is limited so call ahead to reserve a cart. Fort Wilderness carts may be reserved up to one year in advance.

I think you will love the cabins. As a previous poster said the extra roominess is nice and your kids can go outside to blow off energy. You will have a porch with a picnic table too. Depending on the ages of your kids you might not need a golf cart. If they are young you might want one to avoid long walks but sometimes that can be a good thing! :goodvibes

If you are going to MK a lot the boat is great! Thats where we always go first and that boat ride helps build the anticipation. They are fairly frequent too, especially at closing time. It doesnt take that long to get back to FW.

We have stayed there our last 6 or 7 trips (and going again in 20 days) and ahve no desire to stay anywhere else.

I just wanted to make a reply about the bus system. We have only camped at FW in our camper but we thought the bus system was great. I can't ever remembering waiting more than 10min for a bus. Our first trip to Disney was at AKL and we waited much longer for that for our buses. And it was a long bus ride as AKL is one of the furthest resorts away (well, unless you're going to AK :goodvibes ). We have never needed a golf cart...have always walked. They do like fun though to zip around in :teeth: I just wanted to let you know so you wouldn't think the bus system is bad. I think they do an amazing job transporting all those people around everyday of the year.

Just my 2 cents!!

We love FW!!

We're going next month and I already told the family we're not renting a cart. It seems odd to me to do that when we'll be walking all day anyway. What's another mile or 2 or 3? LOL :rotfl2:
