I have some questions on the discount with AAA card. I have had a AAA card forever, my dad got it for me when I started driving many, many yrs ago. I've used it a few times before when booking a room. I actually don't know how much it costs as I haven't purchased it myself, my brother still gets all of ours at once so... Anyway, it's about 60 - 65 per yr, is that about right?

I have friends who want to go for a few days in mid July, I don't think there are any discounts at that time. What is the AAA % for a value? This would be their first time with their 3 kids. Wonder if it would really be worth it to get the card just to get a discount for them. They probably wouldn't go back for a long time, but they really could use a discount, funds aren't great, especially with their DD17 in a wheelchair.

Also, wondering, what if I "said" I wanted to book and pay for their room and used my AAA card? They would be listed as being in the room of course but I would book and pay, they would pay me back, of course. Would they allow that?

I'd just like to help out a little if I could but not sure what to advise. Plus, they have 5, DH, DW, DD17, DS15, DD11, and need wheelchair accessibility, so for sure if they could even use one room at one of the values.

Any thoughts or answers? Thanks so much for reading this! :goodvibes

First, they can not have only one room at values.Max room capacity is 4 .They could either get 2 rooms or try a family suite.AAA discounts are variable. They can be as little as 10% off rack rate or as much as 20% off.It depends on the season etc.Plus, there are not an unlimited amt of AAA discounted rooms only a certain allotment per resort and resort category.Once the discounted rooms are gone, they are gone. They would need their own AAA card.Because they need to show it at check-in. I booked a pkg thru AAA and I was told I needed to show my AAA card too( not sure how true that is)I hope this helps.

When my brother and I planned out trip last year he had the CAA(Canadian) and i did not. The TA was not able to give us a discount for the room. If you book on your own, and ask for AAA discount, they will need to show the card at resort. However, hope this applies to AAA, but i was able to get a CAA card "al-a-cart" which provided all the coverage of TA and service EXCEPT NO AUTO COVERAGE. It was a great deal for me as we have auto coverage elsewhere. It cost around $30 CND. You should have them ask for this and get a price. It is not worth paying more in the end.

I think they can fit in the family suite at the all star resort. I believe it can hold 5. As for the AAA discount, when you make the reservation they will tell you that they need to show the card when checking in. It has been my experience at disney and at any other hotel that I have made a reservation with a AAA discount that I have never been asked to show the card when checking in. Now, I have it with me, but have never been asked to show it. Not sure what they would do at the front desk if you show up without it? If this is something you want to do, you should call quickly, the AAA discounts can all be gone and then it won't matter whether they have the card or not.

I think you are right about depending on who the CM is.When I booked a AAA room only I was asked both on the phone and at check-in for the card. The Check-in Cm said without it ,I would have to pay the going rate.Who knows? Disney can be so convoluted about what they choose to enforce and ignore sometimes.:goodvibes

Yes, this was helpful info, so thanks for the replies! :)

You know, I did forget about them needing the card. I have used it and remember them asking for it when I went in '06, forgot cause in '07 we got a package discount / code thingy. Anyway, that would be a problem then, but don't they ever let someone buy someones room for them, without actually being there too? Hmmm, well this idea probably won't work but I did see a thread looking for July codes so maybe something will come for the gen. public that way. I'll have to watch for that. I'd give my friend this site but she'd never get here she's so busy.

I wasn't sure about the persons per room, though I had heard mention of the suite. Wonder how much that is compared to two rooms. will have to check.

Thanks again for all your help! :goodvibes

I think even if you book a room for them, if you are not an occupant then they would not get the discount. Thus everyone would try and do this. I know that was the case for me, so i bought the $30 travel membership only.We had the suite booked with my brother, and then he could not make it, so CAA told me that i could not use the discount. 2 rooms value would be cheaper then suite but you risk a chance of the rooms not being next to each other. The suite is good because you get a fridge, microwave and mini kitchenette but the teenagers might find it tight for sleeping arrangements.

Without required proof at check in they could be made to pay rack rate. And I don't think that is what you or they would want.
I would check here and mousesavers to see what specials you may come across.
Also, make sure they sign up on the Disney web site, and even order the vacation DVD, as many here have done. Worth a shot.

Thanks everyone! :) I was just trying to get some others thoughts and input so that's why I asked. I figured it wasn't something that would work but you never know for sure. So, yes, I am subscribed to the july discount thread and will have them sign up for the dvds. Is it okay to sign up in each of the parents names? I think something will probably come up, at least I hope so!
Thanks again! :goodvibes
