Thanks to all of you for all of your opinions that you've been given me over the last few weeks. DH and I have really benefitted from them, and it's really helped us a lot!!

So, we finally agreed not to go the "M" name route - we are breaking the trend. (For those of you that remember, some of the ideas were Miller and Mason.) Then, DH thought of Cooper. While most of you liked it, I thought it was a little out there for a kid.

So, to compromise, we just got a new kitten, and named HIM Cooper!! :thumbsup2

Now, we still need to name our baby. I think we've settled on Carter. What do you think?

Now we need to come up with a middle name. Here are some that I have thought of. Please tell me your thoughts:

Carter Jacob
Carter Jamison
Carter Collin
Carter Scott
Carter Lee
Carter Aidan
Carter Zachary
Carter Gerald (after DH dad)
Carter Simon (after DH mom)
Carter William (after my dad's dad)
Carter Alan (after my dad - middle name)
Carter Clarence (after my grampa)

So far, I think I like Carter Jamison the best. DH's stepdad's name is James, so it's kind of a tribute to him, too, since they are very close. (DH's dad died when he was young, so his name of Gerald might also be in the running, but DH does not like the name Gerald AT ALL.)

I figured if we went with Carter Jamison or Carter Jacob, we could call him CJ. :confused3

Thoughts?

Thanks again for everyone's help - this has been a lot tougher for us than naming our dd!! :teeth:

Well considering Carter is the name I have picked out for this kid (if it is a boy), I love it! :rotfl2: I like Carter William out of those choices. (My second son's name is Will)

Carter is my friend's son's name and I like it.

I think I like a one syllable middle name with Carter - like Carter James. But it depends on your last name.

My grandfather is named Clarence, too.

I prefer any of the one syllable names with Carter (Carter Scott). Carter is kind of a "hard" sounding name and the one syllable middle name kind of flows and softens it.

Denae, I swear we have too much in common! I've noticed we share some of the same opinions on threads...are you my long lost sister? :confused3 :teeth: :lmao:

I like :

Carter Jamison, Carter William or Carter Alan.

How about Carter Jeremy instead of Carter Gerald :confused3

Here's another vote for Carter William, sounds very handsome and sophisticated :thumbsup2

I agree with the one syllable name after Carter, I like Carter James.

You do know that in elementary school he will be called Carter the Farter right?

Heres a vote for Carter Jacob
or Carter Aiden..

We did look into that - and DH made a good point: No matter what you name your kid, there will probably be teasing going on, and name calling. We'll just have to do some proactive parenting and hopefully teach our kid that as long as you have good self esteem about yourself, those names shouldn't matter. :thumbsup2

I just hope he believes it and those name calling kids don't scar him for life! ;)

I definitely think you should pick a name that has some meaning from family. So many people now days pick these off the wall names that have no history behind them. Name him after someone important in your life. I realize sometimes that is not always possible due to names in the family that you do not like but you have some good choices here.

Well, if you start calling him that as an infant, he won't think anything of it when he goes to school. :lmao:

I have a friend who has 3 boys are they are Cooper, Jake and Carter!

I think Carter is great name.

In general, if the first name is 2 syllables, I prefer a or 3 for the middle, depending on how many syllables the last name is, but all rules are meant to be broken and I broke that rule with one of my boys. All of my children have my maiden name as their 2nd middle name (2 syllables) and our last name is 2 syllable and our last child's first and middle names are each 2 syllables (Jacob Ryan), so I really blew it with him. :rotfl:

I don't know that it really matters. Give your son the middle name that you like, that has a nice ring to it, that doesn't spell out anything obscene. :teeth: He won't usually even go by that name, unless he chooses to in the future. I do think that it's nice to name a child after someone.

We gave our first son the middle name of Royce, after my father, who died before he was born. My dad was named Roy, and I don't like that name, but Roy means king and Royce means son of a king, so it was an appropriate name to give my son.

For our other 2 boys we didn't decide on their middle names until a day or 2 before they were born. We had a few that we were deciding between, but we didn't make the final selection. It's probably why I have a hard time even remembering their middle names some days. :lmao:

I like Carter Jamison. I think you picked a beautiful and meaningful name. Good luck.

I agree with the others regarding the one syllable middle name. I really like
Carter James!

Carter Alan also sounds good to my ear.

Good luck!
