Help us decide - January or October '22?

Our family (myself, my wife, and our son) are planning our next trip to WDW. We went in late January 2020, right before the world got still, and had such a great time we're planning our return trip. We stayed at CBR last time, and are thinking of staying at POP this time (saving a little $$ on the room to spend an extra couple days). We've narrowed our dates down to either January/February '22, or October 22. If we go in Oct, we'll probably try MNSSHP. Our son turns 7 this summer, so he'd be 7 or 8 depending on which date we go with. Looking for advice/recommendations on which one of these might be the better window for our trip. When in January? The end of January is a great time to visit as the crowds are low and Epcot is in the middle Art Fest. That festival is a lot of fun. Temporary closures are frequently scheduled around this time.

I think October is better overall. It’s warm enough to swim comfortably, Halloween is being celebrated, Food and Wine is fun. And the weather is usually gorgeous, especially later in the month. Can be busier than Jan but the park hours are longer.

We like both times of year for different reasons but if I had to pick just one, it’d be October for sure.

I agree - October is wonderful. The later in the month you go, the lower the chance of hurricanes interfering with your trip. We prefer January due to not having to worry about hurricanes at all that month.

I know I'm in the minority but I really dislike the Halloween and Christmas decorations at Disney. I think it's because I really enjoy living somewhere with four distinct seasons, and 82 degree Octobers (or 70 degree Decembers) just don't do it for me.

If OP is travelling from somewhere in the North, go when the weather is lousy at home. I vote January.

Thanks all! I think we are going to go with October. We'd be looking at late January, and it looks like the Skyliner is going to be closed for refurbishment at that time - we loved using the Skyliner on our last trip, and not having that as an option is a big deal for us. Also, our last trip was in February and we did the Arts Fest, so we figure that trying October and doing the Halloween party and whatnot will make for a different experience.
