Help me decide please: going to do a dining reservation service and would like to narrow it down do two places. We are a family of 4 (2 boys:5 and 2) and we are staying at the GF on a MK day. Looking for dinner- good eats and atmosphere before we head back to the park for EMH. We have plenty of Character meals planned- one more never hurts either. We have never been to Ohana- and Be Our Guest seems like it would be convenient. If you have any other ideas- please let us know!!! pixiedust:

BOG if you've never been there, plus it would be super convenient since you're going back there in the evening. if you've already dined at BOG, then I would definitely go for Ohana.

If you're already outside the park on an afternoon break, and you've never been to 'Ohana, that's what I would vote for.

Have you considered 1900 Park Fare since you're staying at GF? For dinner, they have the wicked step-mother and step-sisters and I hear they are hilarious. The steal the show from Cinderella and Prince Charming apparently and everyone seems to post positive reviews of that character dinner.

I was looking forward to 'Ohana and it turned out to be the worst food of our trip last year. On the other hand, I had thought dinner at BOG would be sort of lame, and it was wonderful, the food was fantastic, and our young boys loved it, too. It was just overall a more pleasant experience, the service was better, the vibe was relaxing and the food (dinner, at least) was way better.

I can't decide for your situation either! I think Chef Mickeys is really festive and it is one of the fun things I remember most from WDW as a kid. BOG wasn't as good as we thought it would be but it was still very good food and to see the castle and the beast. I feel like Ohana would be a meal more be for the adults vs. your young kids but still a place where they would be entertained.

So... if you want a meal that isn't characters during your trip but still fun, Ohana. If you want to get pictures with a lot of characters and have a very "Disney" experience, Chef Mickeys. If you want to see the castle and the beast in a convenient spot with pretty good food, BOG.

If you have other character or kid-centered meals scheduled during your trip, I would probably choose what you would rather have as the adults because all of them are good for the kids...I would probably choose Ohana :)

Hated 'Ohana for dinner. Only tried BOG for lunch, but on the basis of that, it's not likely we'll be back. Of the 3, I'd pick Chef Mickey's. It's a buffet - so something for everyone, and it has the classic characters.

If you want some other ideas, Crystal Palace in the MK has better food than Chef Mickey's. Obviously not the classic characters, but Pooh and Friends are fun too.

Funny how vastly different people's experiences at various restaurants are. We ate at 12 different TS restaurants on our most recent trip (got back a week and a half ago; and actually 13 if you count the Garden View Tea Room). 'Ohana was the best meal of the trip, probably followed by BOG dinner. (My brother liked Boma the best, but 'Ohana is a close second for him.)

With boys your age, I would think that they would love Chef Mickey's. It doesn't get a lot of love on these boards, but we go every trip. It's classic Disney IMO, with lots of variety of food. The characters would be perfect for the ages of your boys (and save you time from lining up in the MK to see them). The monorail is something my teen DD's still enjoy watching run through the restaurant. We think the food is good, but we're not big foodies. For us, a character meal with the Fab 5 is fun and part of the experience. I do think that all of your choices are good. Enjoy!

Initially I thought CM since you have young kids. But since you have other character meals, I voted Ohana. This is one of my favorites.

As evidence by the poll...Ohana is the best of the 3...

But there are much better places than Ohana IMHO.

It depends on what you are looking for, what you want to spend, and your flexibility/range.

I agree that CM is classic DIsney, and even though a lot of people hate it, we keep going back.

I was trying to think of something the kids would like that is convenient to the MK. How about crossing over to Fort WIlderness and having dinner at Trails End? I have never had a meal there, but it is a buffet that consistantly gets good reviews here, and we all know how hard that is!!! and who doesn't like FW??? Seriously, my DGD had more fun on the playground there, and enjoyed the boatride. It takes time but kids love it.

I was surprised at the low quality food at ohana. It was NOT good at all. Anywhere but there. I'd probably go for BOG dinner.

I'm curious what other restaurants were on the list?

Thanks friends! We are on the DxDP - so using 1 credit. The other restaurants were either the Wave, GFC, or Kona- the standard TS resort restaurants. We will be coming off of a break at the hotel before we head back into the park. I can't find much availability the week we are going. Thank you for all your responses - we really appreciate it.

Once upon a time I would have said Ohana. Ohana over the last few years has gone from my must do list to must miss list. The long waits to sit past an ADR, the changes to the menu and the quality of the food slipping has caused me to remove it from my list. One that I would recommend to consider would be Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge. The atmosphere is one the kids would love and have a lot of fun at and what kid would not like endless milkshakes. The endless skillet is also good as well. Very easy to get to and the boat ride back to MK is a short one after dinner.

This most recent trip included (besides 'Ohana):
  • Tusker House (10:40 am 'brunch')
  • Boma (7:30 dinner)
  • WCC (dinner)
  • Garden View Tea Room (2 pm)
  • BOG (11:45 lunch and 6:30 dinner)
  • Akershus (dinner)
  • Via Napoli (lunch)
  • Biergarten (lunch)
  • Sanaa (5 pm dinner, seated next to windows)
  • Kona Cafe (breakfast)
  • HDD (8:30 cat 1)
  • CRT (pre-park opening breakfast)
The trip before included:
'Ohana, 1900PF, V&A (obv the best), Citricos (we've always had excellent meals here), and Cali Grill (it was ok).
