Help! I am not posting this on the resorts board because I know what the answer will be if I post it there. :) I have read one of the other posts currently going on on this board and everyone here seems much more "level-headed" in terms of spending.

My husband and I originally booked our vacation in ASMo for May. Thanks to some great deals, and the hints on this board (like loosing the resort magic package and purchasing APs) we were able to afford to upgrade to AKL! I am so excited about it! We do not have any children yet and I figure there will be plenty of years for us to stay at ASMo once we do have kids. :) :)

Here is my dilema. Right now we are in a standard room, which from my understanding, could be a view of the parking lot. I called yesterday to put in a request for a garden view instead of a parking lot view and the CM basically told me I was crazy to stay at AKL and not see the animals. She said that with these rates, if this is the only time we think we could stay there we should spring for the savanna view. Now I have tried to get the "upsell" that everyone on the resort board has gotten, but I cannot get it! It would have given me the savanna view for $3 more a night than my standard view room price. Which would be fine. But the best I can do right now is $33 more a night. Not bad, but since we bought APs, we would like to try to go down again in December and see the Christmas decorations.

Do you agree, does it seem silly to stay at AKL and see the parking lot instead of the animals? Is $33 a good deal considering what rack rates are? What would all you budget hunters do?

We took Savanah view with the upsell because it was only $20US/night more. The only reason we are staying at AKL is for the animal atmosphere that my kids will love (well, pending on initial reports). I couldn't care less about the Deluxe attributes. To me Deluxe is not a term I can apply to a 340 sq ft hotel room with no microwave or couch - not with a straight face anyway. I don't care where the room decore came from. So to minimize the risk of waking up each morning, looking outside and wondering WHY we were spending $100US/night more than necessary (my second choice is an offsite place at $79/night)...I went Savanah.

Now, if what YOU really want are the DELUXE features, and really aren't into views...then, why NOT save the money? Of course you'll get SOMETHING for the price difference, but there is no point in getting something YOU don't even want

I have the same dilemma, but I'm thinking that there must be restaurants, bars or a patio with the savannah view, and if I want to stare out a window at the animals I'd rather be doing it in a bar or restaurant than in my room anyway. Yes, it would be nice to wake up and look at the animals, but I'm not sure that it's worth even $20 a night.

We were in WDW in Jan, and stayed at the BWI with a waterview, cost us 50.00 more a night for the view. I loved waking up every morning to see the BW. And our DS loved the view also. Next month, DH and I are going on a solo trip and staying at the Swan. We opted for the standard view this time.

We are staying at AKL standard view too!! I figure, you will see animals thru the big window in the lobby, you will see animals outside of the hotel, you will see animals in Animal Kingdom. I don't think that there are any guarantees that you will see animals from your room even if you are paying for savannah view. I am more apt to believe that they will be in the shade for a majority of the day. We are staying there because we will never be able to afford to do so again. They are offering some pretty good rates right now! Go and enjoy it on the amount that you can really afford!!! ;)

Usually my view means a lot to me. Then again I have 3 kids and spend time there in the am and pm while they are sleeping. With no kids in the room, you can spend more time in the common areas of the resort which will have views of the savannah. You could unwind in any of the little nooks and crannies Disney will be sure to provide at the resort. Generally I am a consumer and spender at WDW, but if a lesser view will enable a trip in December, I say take the lesser view.

First of all, How important is a view to you? Are you going to be looking out the window a lot? We also looked into this for our June trip, and what I came up with was that unless you really are accustomed to/want a deluxe hotel, don't up garde, go back to the All Stars and save for the December trip. View has never been important to me, but I know it is for some. Staying in a new hotel is no big deal either, again I know it is to some. But to spend that much more money for someplace to sleep and to look at animals, it just doesn't seem worth it to me.

If I were going to stay there, I would want a view of the animals. to me it doesn't make sense to get a standard view as you would be wanting to go to other locations just to see them. For the little difference in price I'd do the savannah.
