Ok...when we bought our membership the acct manager guy told us the cap was a guideline. Was pretty important detail knowing the # of people we vacation with. now we were going to book OKW 1bd villa (as the rest of our party would join later in the week), but the dvc agent now says no. The acct manager even told us a story about one of his other clients and the number of people they vacationed with on dvc property.

Then they either weren't clear or lied. It is not just a guideline, it's a restriction. Unless one is under 3 you can only have 5 in any 1BR and in some that actually will only be sleeping spots for 4. If you have 6 you will need to book 2 studios and have adults in both of them or book a 2BR. 2 studios at poly with a request for connecting would likely be a request that would be met.

Yeah, it's not a guideline. It's a hard and fast rule.

DVC does allow in some instances for DVC members to add an extra guest, that is not allowed for cash guests, but they do not provide extra towels, bedding, or a sleeping space. These are also hard and fast rules though. It's not an exception, it's an actual policy of that DVC resort. I could not quote you these instances, but hopefully someone else will be along with that info.

Edit: Someone did answer, while I was typing.

From your signature it looks like you might have one child under 3. If that is the case you should be able to have 5 + the little one: 2 in king bed, 2 on sleep sofa, 1 on sleep chair and little one in pack'n'play. Did you call member services?

Well :poop: although I am not happy about the misleading discussion from our DVC guy, I wouldn't change our decision in DVC ownership.
Thanks for replying all.

@KAT4DISNEY, I think you are right on in what you recommended. We may have to do 2 rooms. Bummer. I just hate to blow so many points on one trip. We really wanted Poly this year, but the stint we are looking for in Nov, is only open the last part of it. But has a single day in the middle that is booked. We waitlisted but who knows if it will come through for us.

@jekjones thanks. We did try, they were the ones who said we couldn't go over cap, unless it was an infant as well. But...your comment made me realize my sig line hasn't been updated in QUITE some time LOL. Got that taken care of for now. With that being said my little ones will be 9 and 5 when we go in Nov this year (time has FLOWN!).

Not sure it's just a DVC rule. i think there are fire codes and stuff that apply. I.E. they are not allowed to just let you jam as many as you want into a room without getting into trouble with local codes.

If you are considering two rooms, be aware that there is no guarantee that they will connect. The adults in the party may need to split up. Unless the other two in your party are already adults and then you should be fine.

Good point although there is yet to be a single report of not getting connecting rooms that I've seen. Since all but 2 rooms connect to another room it's one of the "safer" requests to expect. And likely an important one for DVC to meet especially while they are selling PVB.

now that your fast passes are tied to your room reservations and magic bands, you cant have extra people in the room...shame on that rep for being dishonest!!!!!

I'm glad that info wouldn't have affected your decision. Please call and let a DVc sales supervisor know of the misinformation. It might not have changed your purchase decision, but maybe someone elses? The rep might be lying to make a sale or he might be misinformed. In either event, he needs to be told the rules and make sure that he doesn't misinform someone else. We are a family of 5. Being able to book 5 in a 1BR (back when there were no sleeper chairs and max capacity was listed as 4) was very important to us, and would have made a big difference in our decision. Back then, you needed to bring linens and an air mattress for the 5th, similar to staying @ SSr now with no sleeper chair. But 5 was allowed if booking on DVC points.

Without being there, it's difficult to say whether the guide was lying or if the buyer misunderstood. The guide may have been talking about the one-bedrooms at SSR and the like, where there are only four sleeping surfaces but you are allowed to book five people. Or maybe he was describing the "plus one infant" policy. I don't think we should conclude that the guide was being dishonest without more facts.
