HELP!! Travel by / Book by Confusion :(

I thought that I had all of this stuff straight, but my brain just seems to have seized up on this issue… have been thinking about it TOO much!!


Here is our situation…
-- We have a Feb use year, and so have to bank by the end of Sept 2010.

-- We want to use banked 2010 points for travel in May 2011 at DVC (non-home) resort.

-- Window to book non-home resort for May 2011 opens Oct 2010, but our use year only begins in Feb 2011.

Questions…
-- If I have read other threads correctly, I should be able to call in Oct 2010 to book the May 2011 vacation – regardless of when the use year starts (i.e. I don't have to wait until Feb 2011 to book). Is that correct?


-- Am I also correct in assuming that they essentially book the 2010 banked points before the new 2011 issued points?

You are correct - your UY does not dictate when you can make reservations. You can make reservations in October for your May trip.

Be sure to tell MS to use your 2010 banked points first and then ask them to confirm before you hang up -- they should use banked first, but many have warned here on the boards to specifically mention it and confirm before the call is over.

As was said your UY has no impact on when can make the actual call to book. The only thing that matters when booking is having the points be valid for a stay at the time of the trip.

They should automatically use the banked points but you should go ahead and mention that you would like the banked points to be used first. Also, at the end of such a call I always ask to verify my total points left and how many of those can be banked. It's a good way to check that there aren't any banked points remaining that they did not use. Many CM's will tell you this automatically but if one doesn't then I'd ask.

Thanks so much!! I really was going a little over this! And thanks for the heads-up re: asking them specifically to use banked points first! Always better not to assume, right?!

New members are sometimes confused about when points are "issued". All use year points are available in advance, you do not have to wait for the use year to start for points to be added to your account. If you check your account online, you will see February 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 points. Any points you would possibly need to use are there. You could call now for a stay at your home resort starting August 18, 2011 or before. You could even borrow 2012 points for a stay February 1, 2011 or after.
