I'm putting together the slideshow for this year's theatre banquet. It's my DD Senior year so I really want it to be super special but I need help with the songs.

I have songs from Beauty & the Beast, Cats, Fiddler, Godspell & Into the Woods since those are the shows they've done these past 4 years BUT I'm stuck on what song/musical to start the slideshow....ANY and ALL ideas are welcome!

TIA!

What about 'A Musical' from Something Rotten? Or for something more sentimental 'What I Did For Love' from A Chorus Line comes to mind.

from 'kiss me kate', cole porter's- another opening, another show:

Another op'nin, another show
In Philly, Boston, or Baltimo'e
A chance for stage folks to say 'Hello!'
Another op'nin of another show.

Another job that you hope will last
Will make your future forget your past
Another pain where the ulcers grow
Another op'nin of another show.

Four weeks, you rehearse and rehearse
Three weeks, and it couldn't be worse
One week, will it ever be right?
Then out of the hat it's that big first night

The overture is about to start
You cross your fingers and hold your heart
It's curtain time and away we go

(INSTRUMENTAL)

I just heard the The Phantom of the Opera right off the bat. That could be just because my dd was just listening to it yesterday :) Sure would be an attention getter :)

This was going to be my suggestion for an opening, but since you beat me to it....

OUR TIME from MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG by Stephen Sondheim.

Here's a bit of the lyrics:

Something is stirring, shifting ground
It's just begun.
Edges are blurring all around
And yesterday is done.

Feel the flow
Here's what's happening
We're what's happening

Don't you know?
We're the movers and we're the shapers
We're the name in tomorrow's papers
Up to us now to show 'em

It's our time
Breathe it in
Worlds to change and
Worlds to win
Our time
Coming through
Me and you, pal
Me and you

Years from now
We'll remember and we'll come back
Buy the rooftop and hang a plaque
This is where we began
Being what we can

Works for opening or closing or both. It's lovely and optimistic and kind of a perfect song for theatre kids.

Ok, this isn't really from a musical, but you could start the slide show with that one song from Dirty Dancing that goes "I've had the time of my life..."

I knew I would get great ideas for here!!! Thanks so much---off to get the songs!

My brain just has gone dead with this...I guess because I can't believe that in a week my baby will be graduating :) !
