I've been taking my DS to DL for 16 years. I thought I knew it all -- I knew pretty much all of HydroGuy's tips long before he published them. Now that my only child is almost 18 and not into vacationing with mom, I thought my regular DL days were behind me and I've even drifted away from these boards lately. But suddenly I found myself planning a trip with an 8 year old girl and found I could use some help.
I really want to make this a special trip for my great-neice. Here parents are homeless and far from model parents. I heard she desperately wants to go to Disneyland and how could I pass an opportunity to make an angelic little girl's wish come true. What do I need to do differently with a girl? Is Libby Lu a must? We don't have a lot of time (2 nights at DL hotel, one full and two 1/2 days).

)They all liked to dress up until about age 6, then they were too cool for it. But some girls still love Libby Lu at that age, as well as Build-a-Bear (in DTD), Fantasy Princess Faire, and the princess character meals at Ariel's Grotto in DCA.
and post pics when you get back!!!
I would suggest finding out

You are going to have the best time!!
How wonderful it will be to share this experience with your niece - you will have a blast! My DD7 still loves princesses but this past trip we skipped the PFF (wait for us was over one hour the previous year). This year she loved Autopia, BTMRR, GRR, Soarin, Turtle Talk with Crush and the Animation Building....I could go on and on. Definitely get a map and let her lead the way (with gentle suggestions, of course). We don't do Character Meals as they are just TOO much $$ - but we have never felt shorted on meeting characters either. We have always been able to see them around the parks and got tons of autographs (very popular). A note about Pin Trading - both of my DD's love the pins but not the trading! So unless she is pretty outgoing, she may not like the trading part. I guess mine enjoy Pin Collecting more than Pin Trading - very cute pins, thousands of them available actually so it really is a hobby that can suit ANYONE. Just be prepared for the prices! I envy your trip with your little one - 8 is still a very magical age!
