My mom gave my girls a marker for signatures on the t-shirts & we have discovered that the marker was a washableone. Other than writing over the signatures again with indelible marker, can anyone suggest something? Is there something I can spray on the signatures to make them permanent?

If you are good with a sewing machine, you can sew dark thread over the actual signature and that should be permanent!

So sorry this happened. Those markers are everywhere and hard to tell apart. I've been thinking and it seems that your solution of going over the signatures with a sharpie is the best way to go. Not that sewing isn't a great idea but, whoa, tweedlemom must be one awesome sewer(I'm impressed), it would take me a year to do that.

I hope it all works out in the end.

I am holding out for going over the signatures as a last resort. I don't have the most steady hand. And forget about sewing! I barely know how to thread my machine - actually I am not sure where my machine is! But thanks for the ideas!

Anyone else?

I think I remember something about using vinegar? I don't know if it will work on washable markers, but we did the sharpie thing and ball point pens, and it worked on that. We soaked it in vinegar (I think) before the first washing to help preserve. I also think that there are things that you can get at the craft store to spray on it. check with your local Michaels or Pat Catan's they may be able to help or find a friend with a steady hand to help out as well!!!

I do iron on shirts and use ScotchGuard spray on them to keep them from running. (A tip I got on the Disigns board.) Spray several (3-4) coats on the outside of the shirt and then turn it inside out and spray several coats. You can just spray the signatures.

If you haven't already, post this message on the DISigns board. They do lots of t-shirts and may have a good tip for you.

Martha White ball point paints last forever and are washable or is that Aunt Martha paints either one they are ball point come in a tube and last forever thru many many washings.

after you paint with them dry for 24 hours then iron to set the paint before washing. The are great for simple lines an outlines I don't much care for them for filling in large spaces tho.

They come in many many colors and each tube is less than 2.00 I find them at Ben Franklins an other craft stores.
