Help! Switching to slide in range from free standing range.

I am wondering if a slide in range "sits" ON the edges of the counter top, or just slides in between.

Well it's time, my free standing range is dying. I want to buy a slide in range, but I am not sure it will fit/install properly with my existing counter tops. I have a 30" clearance between the counters. My range is pretty snug in there now. The new range I like is a Frigidaire model FFGS3025L and the specs say 31 1/2" total width on a 30" oven. :confused3

I would appreciate any info people may have about their slide in range installation. TIA

The body of the range slides in between the cabinets, but there is a lip around my glass cooktop that rests on top of the counter. I really would suggest measuring the floor model and comparing it to what you've got at home. For it's worth, I really enjoy the clean, uncluttered look of our slide in. I didn't pick it out, it came with the house, but I love it.

Unless your countertops are already configured to accommodate this, you know you might not be able to slide the unit all the way in. There could be a gap of an inch or more at the back of the unit (because of the electric plug and/or the gas supply). Some people dont realize this.

The slide in range cooktop sits on the counter top so make sure that your counter is even. If you have gap in the back between the wall and the range, you can purchase a filler kit.

I wouldn't purchase a slide in range to replace a free standing one. You will get less for your money with a slide in than a free standing. Most customers that purchase a slide in need it due to the configuration of their kitchen, like an issue with a pass through or an island.

I am assuming you have a freestanding range now?

Here is the install instructions for that range, there is a good diagram with the dimension requirements :

A new slide in install would have a strip of counter top 1 1/2 inches deep behind the range, in your installation there will be a gap at the back when you slide it in.

Frigidaire makes a filler panel for this gap, called a backguard. It looks like for that model is is available in white of black :

(W) PN # 903046-9011
(B) PN # 903046-901

How well this works will depend on your back splash. This kit is really designed for use with counters that don't have an integrated back splash, such as granite with just a decorative tile back splash that comes all the way down to the counter.

This may not work well if you have counter tops with an integrated backslash like laminate that rolls up into a back splash.

Thanks for the info. I do not have any backsplash yet. I am ready to have the backsplash done and the design would look much better with the slide in. Also I think it will give the area a more open look.

I just have quartz counter tops, nothing up the wall. So I think we can work out the back of stove issue. I am concerned about the front of the stove on this model. It appears to need a counter that doesn't extend over the front of the cabinet like mine do. Or need to be notched out (not an option for me). I need to go this weekend and take a good look and some measurements.

It should be designed for the front of the counters to extend out from the base cabinets by 1 1/8 inches.

We are building a new house that will have a standard laminate countertop that has an integrated backslash in the back. My wife wants a slide-in range but will that work with this existing countertop?
