We got an email today from Disney that the Star Wars Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party for which we have a reservation in May is being changed from 9:10pm to 8pm. Problem is we have dinner reservations at the Sci-fi dine in theater at 5:40.

Will that be a problem? We can move the dinner reservation earlier to 4:15 (that's all that is presently available) but would prefer not to eat that early if we don't have to. We also don't want to be super rushed for dinner. Thank you so much in advance for any advice!

There is a such a good variety of food at the SW Dessert Party, that we usually do lunch and maybe have an afternoon snack and treat the party as dinner. There's a lot of savory foods, not just sweets.

The best thing about Sci-Fi Diner is the atmosphere. Move your ADR earlier and just have a snack.

We are big supporters of a ‘Linner’ meal on party days so that we can enjoy all of the deserts...I don’t think I could enjoy sci fi (with fantastic frys and shakes!) and then the party.

Are you saying the party starts at 8 now? Or the show starts at 8? I can’t imagine the party starting at 9:10 previously! That would be a really late night!!

If the party really doesn’t start until 8, it’s probably possible to get there in time. You would probably be seated for dinner by 6, and be done by 7.

I believe the SW fireworks party has more “non dessert” options than the other parties, so if you do a late lunch, in anticipation of the party being your “dinner,” you can still snack on some non-sweets at the party before dessert.
From the WDWinfo review:
“There were also some tasty savory options available which included flatbreads with hummus and dips, cheese and olive skewers, tomato and mozzarella skewers, and fruit ‘saber’ skewers. I thought the inclusion of some savory options was a nice touch for people with less of a sweet tooth.”

I would move it earlier if I could, but I wouldn't skip dinner. There's only so much sugar and cheese you can eat

I don't know where the 9:10 time came from, but the party would never begin at such an odd and late time. SWaGS is at 9:30 in May and parties begin at 8:00, 90 minutes before the show.

Yes it does.

Well - if you eat a larger or later lunch, you don’t have to skip dinner - you just don’t need a sit down meal. Go and split a burger or sandwich or chicken fingers at 6pm but don’t over eat.

From a timing perspective, it's not a problem at all. You will, most likely, be out of Sci-Fi at 7:00 pm at the latest. As others have said, there are more savory items at the SW party than other dessert parties (and lots of desserts, too), so perhaps get lighter items for dinner if you have any concerns about being full for the party.

I know my opinion on this isn't in the majority, because I don't equate value with quantity of food, but rather quality and overall experience. I would leave the 5:40 dinner. You will be out in plenty of time to get to the dessert party at 8:00. I would not overeat at Sci-Fi and I would definitely not bother with a dessert there either and enjoy a few desserts at the party instead.

This is how we look at it as well. Even if we showed up for the dessert parties on empty stomachs, we could never (and would never) eat enough to justify the cost. For us, it's location and experience and the food is a bonus.

The desert party does have savory options as mentioned above (hummus, cheese, olives). I actually ate more olives and cheese than deserts because we made the mistake of replacing dinner with the party (ours was very early). I don't really recommend that. I would try to have the ADR earlier, then maybe have a very light dinner.

I just did the dessert party in November. I might be in the minority but we actually had dinner before, granted we spent the day in MK and ate there. We ate at Skipper Canteen and actually had a large meal because of the dining plan. We ended up not eating too many desserts, but instead drank a lot of alcohol at the party. We had taken our skipper canteen desserts togo so we had a box and ended up stuffing our boxes with the desserts to take back to our hotel room. I know you aren't supposed to do that, but we somehow sneaked it lol
