Help.. Suggestion Driving this Friday....

I am leaving for Florida on Friday late afternoon/ early evening this is my 1st trip there,I have never driven outside of Jersey my question is I am leaving from the South Jersey area, what time should I leave and if I were to drive at least half the way there ( 8 hours) where would be a good reasonable place to spend the night at? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated?

Lilly good luck. DW and I live in Allentown, PA. We are leaving on friday also. But we are leaving at 5:30 to 6:00am. From reading other posts afternoon or early evening is the wrong time to leave from Jersey. The traffic getting out of jersey, into ny/ct and then DC will be horrible.

That being said, we are taking rt78 to 81 to 77. When we get to Charllotte, we will switch over to 95. We will then take 95 south to Savannah, ga exit 94, staying at la quinta inn, pretty good rate 62.00 for the night.

By taking 81 and 77 we are avoiding the major 95 traffic in the area and also it is a beautiful drive.
