Hello! So hopefully somebody can help me with my strange situation! I originally had booked a flight with Airtran to fly from Asheville to Orlando on Tuesday Aug, 16 and a return flight on Sunday Aug 21 from Orlando to Charlotte,NC. The reason I was returning to Charlotte was because at the time I booked Airtran only was flying in and out of Asheville, NC on Tues, Thurs and Sat. They have recently changed to having service everyday. I have also checked my flight schedule and my flight times have changed for my flight from Charlotte to Orlando. What are the chances that I can call Airtran and let them know that the change in time does not work for me and that I would like to fly into Asheville, NC instead as they are closer and the departure time would work better for me? I would have booked to fly into Asheville originally if it had been available at the time of booking but it wasn't. Sorry my question was so long!:)

I believe if the flight time change is major, most airlines will allow you to change to any flight that day that will work better for you. However, if it's just a few minutes from the original flight time, you may have to pay the change fee. Plus if the ticket price increases due to changing the arrival airport on your return flight, I would think you would have to pay whatever the difference in cost is from your current itinerary.

Yeah, it depends on how big the change is. But if it is something they deem significant, you should be able to change to the flight you want. We've never had to pay to change to more expensive flights either, so give them a call and hopefully it will work out.

A year ago my flight from Detroit to MCO was changed to 30 minutes earlier and I was driving from Cleveland to catch that flight and they changed me to the later flight. I would call and explain to Airtran and see what they say.

Since they changed the schedule on you, if it s more than an hour or so, you just hand pick alternate flights you would like first, including connections in a different city and including nonstops. Then call and quietly ask for these.

Do not agree to pay more but instead reiterate that they made a change that made things difficult for you thus the reason for you call to make a re-change yourself.

If you have to leave an hour earlier and also you get to your destination an hour later then that is a two hour change.

Thank you all for your responses and advice so far they have been greatly appreciated. I may just call and see if they would be willing to work with me at all considering that when I originally booked they were not flying into Asheville at all on Sundays and now they are. Maybe that along with the time change of the original flight will help. Either way I will be happy as both flights are non-stop. By the way anyone that lives near the airport in Asheville, NC the airtran flights to Orlando are really reasonable and they are all non-stop. For coach it runs about $65-$75 per person each way!

Airtran will work with you. Just call and say the time change does not work. Tell them what you would like and there should be no issues. Their CS agents are very good to work with. I have used changes in times to my advantage a few times, including adding a day to the beginning and end of a trip.

So I just got off the phone with Airtran and they were wonderful on the phone! The woman I talked with was able to switch my flight for me to fly into Asheville instead or Charlotte and it took less than two minustes to make the changes!!! I guess it also helped that I also just received an email from them letting me know my flight times had changed and that I could contact them to make any changes. I would like to thank everyone again for their input and advice. :yay:
