Help Spirit isn't servicing Newark INDEFINATELY

Ok I finaaly talked my parents in to taking a flight from Newark to Orlando on Christams day do to the OK price.Now Spirit has cancelled all flights from Newark.I can't get through to an agent because they are servicing people who are flying now(understandably). What can she do? Is this grounds for a refund because the flight origination changed. Their site says if the flight is before 11/7 they will give refunds After that there will be a penaly. I feel so bad I really talked her into it. Any Suggestion? Any thoughts on whether it will open back up or why it is closed??????
 
We currently hold tix (4) for Detroit-Orlando in March. By then I hope all has settled down and security is handled. I am assuming you paid with a credit card? You may want to try going back on that card--citing the difficulties you have had trying to get thru and that you just want to cover your butt! If you don't get this resolved through Spirit, then I would definately call the credit card company. Good luck and keep us posted.
 
I have a similar situation with Spirit. We have tickets from Detroit to Orlando on 9/28 returning 10/6. I just purchased these on 9/13 as we were supposed to fly Delta on 9/14. Our return flight has been cancelled. They put us on a flight departing at 12:30 p.o. instead of 7:30 p.m.! No call or contact, they just did it. That would mean we would have to be up and out of the hotel by 8:00 a.m. That is just not doable for me. I have inquired about a refund and they tell me I can get it but I will know more today when I call and officially cancel.

I understand cutting back on flights but seems to me that they have cut back on the wrong flights. How many ppl want to leave that early on a Saturday. A weekday, maybe but IMO the evening flights one the weekends would benefit more ppl.

OK I finally got through to customer service and was told I had to send a written request in order to get a refund. Anyone else get a different reply.I tried twice and got the same answer Due to the volume of calls they areno longer issueing refunds over the phone. I still haven't contacted American Express Hopefully they will be able to help me. Thanks for the replies

I have read many negative posts from you regarding Spirit airlines. Everytime someone posts a question regarding Spirit you bash them into the ground and them stomp on them. I am curious to know how many times you have personally flew with Spirit airlines and also in hearing about your negative experiences with this airlines, their lousy customer service, etc. For someone to feel so strongly against a company as you do with Spirit, I am sure you must have had a lot of personal negative experiences with Spirit and maybe your experiences could help other travelers who are thinking of using this airlines.
 
I finally got a refund. I have to admit it took hours of arguing but I finally found someone to listen. They CAN do it, they don't want to do it. I talked to about 8 different people and they all told me they couldn't do it. I was finally able to locate a corporate # (in Florida) off of the Spirit website. I found out the person I need to talk to is Mary Francis. I tried all day to get to her but kept getting transferred to her voice mail. I didn't leave a message for her. I finally made one last effort with the 800 customer service line. I called and immediately asked for a supervisor, they are not going to want to give you one, just be firm that you need a supervisor. When you get to that supervisor ask for her name and ID #. Let her know you have tried to get a hold of Mary Francis and why you need the refund. They were not happy with doing it the lady even said "Ma'am if we gave refunds to everyone that is calling we might as well shut our doors" My reply was that I fully understand that but they are not able to offer me the product that I purchased. She finally gave in. I simply used our company philosophey *Friendly but firm* (I am a bill collector). I know we don't transfer to supervisors when asked the first time, many times they simply don't need one. But it is our policy to transfer if a debtor persists and that seems to be the policy of Spirit as well. Let me know how it goes.....good luck!

Thanks Melody I am trying again. I am glad you got a refund. I have faxed a letter which they claim they never received.UGH I am trying to reach a supervisor but conveniently none are available.
OK Spoke to Mary Got her ID and name Did me no good. She insisted she can do nothing for me and said I had to send a letter WRITTEN not faxed. This is ridiculous. Anyway I have already sent a letter. I will call everyday if I have to. She said they are processing the requests on a first come first serve basis and people started writing last week because they were scared to fly. I told her I wasn't scared THEY cancelled my flights and all she could say was I am sorry. I will never ever ever fly spirit. IF there is a Spirit after this.
 
Try calling during the daytime. I was trying to do this afterhours and that seemed to be when I had all of my problems. Where are you located? I think they have two customer service areas. I think I was calling into the Michigan one. If you think it would help I will get you the name and # of the person that I spoke to, I have it written down at work. The main corporate # is (954)447-7965 try calling there for Mary Francis as well.

Don't give up, they have to give you a refund. Another thought, how did you pay for them. If you put it on a credit card you can always write a letter of dispute. Just keep in mind, the squeeky wheel gets the oil!!
