HELP!!!!---Specific v. Not-so-Specific Room Requests

We are going Oct 13-20, staying at Poly GV. I saw on Steve's web site that he actually lists room numbers, and I have requested Tokelau with 3 specific room numbers. Question: If these specific rooms are not available, will they keep us in Tokelau???
A balcony, non-smoking room is our only real request, so am I better off just asking for Tokelau non-smoking???

We always request non-smoking & 3rd floor with balcony when we make our reservations for the Poly (GV). I've requested specific longhouses twice and gotten the one we wanted once. I've never requested a specific room before.

I've always heard you should limit your request and start with the most important first.

Non-smoking,3rd fl, balcony and sometimes a particular longhouse, but try to keep it general. Tomorrow I am going to call to see what they suggest for arrival of 9/27.

Am torn between asking about a newly renovated longhouse or staying in Tokelua or Tahiti - lrager rooms, but farther from the action and I love to people watch. Any suggestions? I fear the Tokelua and Tahiti might not be in great shape since theya re next to be refurbished.

Debbie is right: specific room numbers does not give the CMs enough latitude if those specific numbers are not avaiable.

Best to limit your requests to what is most important to you, and rank them in order of importance. For example: "non-smoking" then "3rd floor" then "balcony" and then "Tokelau bldg"
Too many and too specific requests just muddy the soup, and I expectworks against yor chances of getting what you want. I am sure that the CM at check in will give you a choice of locations meeting or nearly meeting your requests, provided it's not totally booked up.

and it really didn't look like it was in immediate need of refurbishment. Room was spotless, carpet in hallways clean and not dirty looking.... So I wouldn't be concerned about staying in Tokelau, unless other rooms are different than our was....

Last year was the first time I put in other requests besides just "non-smoking" when I made our reservation.

I also added 3rd floor w/balcony, Fiji Longhouse and all my requests were met. I did fax 4 days before we left repeating my requests but I really think making your requests at the time you make your reservation is what helps in getting what you want.
