I went out today and bought a twin sized air mattress. We will be visiting a hotel this weekend and then staying at Pop at the end of April. DH is a little unhappy that I went and spent money on another air mattress. His thinking is that the kids already have an air mattress (at least a full size, maybe larger), they will have to make that work. I told him regardless of how big the hotel room is this weekend, there is no way another bigger than a twin will fit at Pop. So tell me it made perfect sense for me to go buy a twin sized air mattress, since somebody somewhere is not fitting in a bed.
ETA: We won't really use the mattress beyond this trip. The bigger one we have had for 2 years and used once.

You're correct. I can't imagine trying to fit a full size air mattress in the rooms at Pop (without taking out a bed of course;)) Honestly, even fitting the twin is going to be a challenge. It can be done, but it'll be crowded.

ETA: I was just looking at the ages of your kiddos and could your 2 older share a bed and the 21 months old sleep in the pack n play? It'd be cheaper and would take up less room. We did this last Sept. with our then 28 month old. She slept fine in it.

personally I think you were wrong to buy something w/o speaking to your spouse about it first (assuming you didn't). If I were to go buy a Blu-Ray player and claim that our existing DVD player wasn't good enough any longer, my wife would have a fit!

I totally understand that your DH is unhappy regardless of how much the mattress cost.

Next time, try discussing it with him first and you might come to a better conclusion or you might convince him it is the right decision to make - but either way he will feel better about whatever decision is made because he will have had a say in it. Put yourself in his shoes.

edit: not trying to sound judgemental - just wanted you to see it from a different perspective.

It's not like she went out and bought a new car!

There is no way a full size will fit in the room. You are going to be frustrated with the twin as it is.

There is no way you will fit a full size anywhere in ur room at POP...Hell get over it haha lol... Sorry to hijack this thread but I just started a room thread and loooove ur game room Piperpizzaz :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We use a Ready Bed. It is an inflatable bed with built in sleeping bag. It is about the size of a toddler bed...

A $30 air mattress needs a discussion? :confused3 I wouldn't buy a TV or microwave without discussing it with DH first, but anything under $100 wouldn't be mentioned. :confused3

Exactly. I'd skip the full size air mattress for the trip and if the twin doesn't fit, the older kids will just have to suck it up and share a bed. When I went with Girl Scouts, there were 4 of us per room and we had to share beds. Not my idea of fun but worked out fine. The baby can use the PnP.

You might can get the twin in there but nothing bigger! If you want to use the P&P I doubt you will find room for the air mattres.

If this is the only thing you buy for the trip, consider yourself lucky!! There may really be other uses as you kids are getting older and have friends sleep over etc.

DH and I do not discss things that cost 30.00 before one of us buys them. We really do not have a set amount but we do discuss big ticket items.

It is an air matress! Why should she need to discuss a minimal purchase like that? If it was a car, appliance or big money electronics then someone should probably discuss it with their spouse, but not for a twin sized mattress. That just sounds way too controlling. It sounds like she is competant enough to make decisions about what would be the best for her family.

I think that a full sized mattress would not fit comfortably if it fit at all. It would be pushed up between the window and the bed. The twin sized would be a much better fit.

I think the twin mattress sounds like a good idea for your travel party. And I certainly don't run every single purchase I make by DH (nor does he -- except big ticket stuff as others have said). As far as never using it again, you never know when an air mattress will come in handy. I think it's a great thing to have in the closet or garage for sleepovers/camping trips/future WDW trips, etc, etc, etc. Even the one-time use on this trip will likely be worth the purchase price -- everyone having their own good place to sleep makes for happier travelers!

I'm on your side of this one, OP. :thumbsup2

chill out people- I was assuming the air mattress was an expensive kind - like an aerobed or something in the $200 range.

My wife and I discuss MOST EVERY PURCHASE by the way. We keep track of every dollar we spend and make sure we are in agreement before we buy things outside of our normal budgeted amounts. I don't control her and she doesn't control me - we communicate so that we can avoid arguments like the OPs. $30 is not a big thing agreed - but there was no mention of how much was spent originally (at least I didn't see anything in the OP).

:hippie:

I would stop spending money on air mattresses, and spend the money instead on rooms that would fit a family of your size more comfortably.

We are in the same situation! I have a three year old here and we normally in the past had her in a pack n play. She is too tall for them now. She is a tough one to sleep with, and needs her own bed for anyone else to sleep through the night~ I have a twin size air mattres BUTI I have been told they wont fit at pop. I went out looking today for a toddler size one today. BTW... I DONT plan on talking that over with my husband....;) If I find a cheep one..GREAT.. If I dont, then I will just try and take my chances with the twin~ I will let you know if I find a good one!

The rooms are 260 sq. ft., including the bathroom and "closet" area. The main section contains two fixed-position full beds with a shelf on the wall between them, a large armoire, a 24" round table and two straight-back chairs.

The area between the door and the bed, the widest open floor in the room, is only as wide as a possible connecting door, which is 40" including the frame. With a 78-80" long mattress in that spot, you wiould not be able to fully open the door without moving the mattress. The hotel would tell you that you couldn't do it because blocking the door is considered a fire hazard.

What I do for my 2 yo is ask for an extra full set of bedding, and I make the small child a "nest" between the bed and the exterior wall. A folded full-size bedspread makes a nicely padded underlayer. We use an inflatable bumper to keep her from rolling under the bed. (Not an expensive one; just a half-inflated pool float that is duct-taped into a roll shape and covered with a towel or two.)

PS: Just to throw this out there for the OT issue of consulting on the purchase: it might not have been about money. It might have been about storage space in the house, or just the idea of acquiring more "stuff" that they will very seldom use. DH and I have this discussion all the time, because we both tend to hoard a bit, and I'm especially bad about keeping things "just in case". We try to remove something for everything we bring in if it needs sotorage, so I'm thinking that if they only have room to store one mattress, he could be thinking that the full would be more useful in most circumstances.

I'm not so sure that even a twin will fit. I would take the twin back and get a ready bed or whatever its called that is a tad smaller w/ a sleeping bag attached, or check out a rental site to see if you can rent a toddler. That or ask for a P&P and have the older 2 share a bed (or each of you take a child in the bed w/ you). My friend did just that w/ her 3 (11, 9, 1.5)

Even the twin will be a tight fit if at all. You are right not to bring the full.

I bought an air mattress from TRU that was the size of a toddler bed mattress when we went to POP. It fit perfectly btw. the second bed and the wall. Nothing bigger than that would fit in that spot and still stay out of the way otherwise. DS didn't like to share a bed with anyone and is a restless sleeper. This was the perfect nook for him to sleep in. Any other place you would even think of putting a mattress in (in front of the bathroom, or in front of the door would make it difficult to get around esp. if mom gets up before anyone else to get ready. I got ours on clearance and just left it behind which gave me more room for souvies in my suitcase:)
