Help... settle a debate, on transportation.

There are sixteen people total, and while they're arriving different times/days, it seems like fourteen of them are coming the same day. They'd either need two or more vehicles, or they'd have to draw straws or something to see who gets to relax on tge bus vs who has to trek through the parking lots.

OP here,

I think that my Friends DH wants to do this, he said "I can be Santa picking everyone up", he even said he was going to wear his Mickey Santa hat.

My Friend and her DH are going to arrive on Friday night, and stay at either the airport or a hotel nearby for Friday night.

Friends DH's version - Saturday morning the rental car company said that they would pick up. Then they would be heading to Resort to check in early, which I told them do not expect to get into the room early, as this is the busiest time of the year. She said that they would most likely head DTD for lunch and a quick walk around, then she would head back and wait for the strollers to be delivered, they will have 2 double and 2 singles being delivered . She wants to be there for delivery since last year they had a issue with one of the strollers not working properly. It took the company 2 days to trade out the stroller. While DH heads back to the airport for 1st pick up. Her son and his family will be up very very early that morning I think that they will be leaving their home around 2:00am to get to the airport, park, security, and be on the plane on time. So being able to just grab the bags and get in the car and head for the resort will be easier then waiting on others to fill the bus, and then the rounds to drop off with DME. Then back to the airport two more times, and then once early Sunday Morning to pick up son and fiancée.

My friends version- thinks they should just stay at the airport and ride DME the next day, and order from garden grocer. But then she is wanting to get a taxi to Wal-Mart or Target so that she can get some Disney stocking stuffers. She is determined to be there for delivery of the strollers. Which she is working on now to make sure that they deliver to her only. Anyone know if this is possible?

Her DH now thinks that they should rent a van for the whole 10 nights, due to the fact -They have added quite a few extras on to their trip, they guys are planning to play a round of golf, and another day I will be meeting the girls at the outlet mall for some serious shopping. Also they are now thinking about heading over to Universal for the day. Not everyone will be going to Universal, I think as of right now it's just the siblings and their spouse's, My friend and her DH will be taking all 6 grandkids to one of the mini golf places or Disney Quest then to either beaches and cream or Ghirardelli's for ice cream.

to LovesTimone: to the other know that booster seats can not be used in airplane? only approved carseats with harnesses but boosters that use seatbelts can not be used, must be checked unless backless which have to go in overhead

Thanks so much for the info. I passed this along to her.

Once you rent you won't bus again. So rent for the whole trip is my vote. Also I agree take DME to resort at least and get rental from near by hotel.

Do you know if Hilton at DTD offers car rental? or really any of the resorts at DTD? This would be a better option for them.

For a gathering THAT large for 10 days - I think a car will come in handy at a variety of times. I do think that multiple trips to the airport is going to be more time than the DH thinks - I agree that maybe it's something he "wants" to do vs. needs to do. Personally - I'd rent the car (maybe a mini-van?) - but make everyone take the DME to the resort.

Thanks that will work out well for them. I passed it along, and they got a better rate for Friday night and the rental car place is onsite. They are going to drop off there the day before they leave and all ride DME to the airport. Many Thanks... Oh yeah they went with a van for the whole time.

Even if the plan is to rent a vehicle and pick all up at the airport, I would strongly suggest that everyone make ME reservations just in case. You don't have to use them and don't need to cancel them if Plan A works. But it's a good backup that gets everyone where they needs to go at no additional expense.

My main concern is if something expected happens.... flights get delayed/canceled - stuff like that. Planes will be full and if you get say weather problems somewhere in the country, it could make a significant change in arrival times. If worst comes to worst, someone's group hops on ME and gets to the resort with minimal hassle. They would need to grab their luggage and take it on ME, but they would be getting their luggage anyway if being picked up so no additional time delay there.

No that it matters but I'm concerned the amount of traffic, time, and hassle getting around might be being underestimated - in Orlando and even bouncing around Disney property. This is absolutely the busiest time of the year for tourists and locals. I know what a hassle it is to go to my local grocery and mall just before Christmas, add tourists to the mix and it's gotta be wild :)
