I had to take my cat to the er vet on sunday because he was in his litter every ten minutes. urine came out, the x-rays showed no blockage, his kidneys looked great, and they gave him abx, and fluid on sunday. yesterday he was fine all day, he was fine and playing this morning, but i called my boyfriend and he said my cat was in and out of his litter again about 4 times in one hour.

he's been fine again for the last two hours, playing and stuff. he's eating normal and drinking water, but i'm worried.

he has his follow up appt. this afternoon. can it be that they abx didn't kick in yet? it's been about two days he's been on them.

i don't get it, he was fine all day yesterday, and he's fine now, but he was urinating a lot for that one hour this morning. (in his litterbox)
anyone ever deal with this?

Hi, I wish I could offer some advice or knowledge, but I don't know. I just wanted to say I hope all is well. We are currently dealing with a very sick pup. He is hospitalized right now and it is minute to minute. Even if I can't offer help, I can offer tons of empathy. Here's hoping your kitty is his old self soon!

Was he checked for diabetes? Frequent drinking and urination are common signs. My kitty was diagnosed after going through several bowls of water per day and filling up the litterbox like mad.

Is the kitty actually urinating decent quantities or does he seem to be straining or just going a little bit each time? My female kitty had the same problems and she had crystals in her bladder. We went through all kinds of tests and finally an ultrasound showed the crystals. We changed her food and had her on antibiotics for a while and she is fine now.

he's drinking fine, i don't think it's diabetes, he has no other signs.

a normal amount has been coming out, it doesn't seem like he's straining, and he's not moaning or anything.

i'm also worried about how much more this will cost if he needs more tests. I've already spent over two hundred so far, and i don't have a ton more. I'd need to make a payment plan and i don't think vets do this.

:(

Simba did this one day, one time. He ran in and out of his litterbox about 6 times in 10 mins. time. I took him to the vet, and everything was fine. I had just cleaned his litterbox when he did this. I chalk it up to a temporary behavior/acting weird thing. He only did it this once and never since.

If you're cleaning your litter box alot or have gotten a new type of litter the cat may just be playing.

Cats have a tendency to 'go wild' around fresh/new litter. They like cleanliness.

We laugh at my cat EVERY time we change the litter or clean the box - she is in and out every 30 seconds it seems.

Sounds like its just weird cat behavior to me. As long as the cat seems otherwise healthy, I wouldn't waste the money on a vet.

One of my cats had this
INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS

After numerous antibiotics and other treatments, she was finally diagnosed. The treatment is amitriptyline which is an antidepressant. She doesn't have IC because she's depressed however. :p From what I understand it's used to relax the bladder.

It took many weeks and several hundred dollars to figure out what was wrong with this cat. If your's is still having problems after several more days on antibiotics, I would mention this to your Vet. Ours also went through periods of seeming fine and then would be in the litter box every minute for hours on end.

Good luck!
Roberta
