Anyone ever had one or know about them? DD has one under her tongue. Saw the dentist today, and he referred us to an oral surgeon, but it was too late to call today, and we may have to wait till Monday to even talk to his office; our dentist said we might NOT be able to get it taken care of before we leave on Thanksgiving Day for our 10 day trip to Orlando.

If we DO get it taken care of, what does it involve?? And if we DON'T, what problems might we run into on vacation??

I did a search on the Internet, and found a site that said it could be a blockage caused by chewing on bones or sticks...that's when I realized it was a veterinary site. :teeth: DD swears she hasn't been chewing on bones and sticks. ;)

MARE!!!!! Your family has all the yucky luck!! I know nothing about this but hugs to you and your DD.

by the way...I hope we run into you as much this year as we did last at WDW.

ROTFLOL :teeth: I am so sorry, I'm laughing but that struck me so funny my DH had to come see what I was laughing about :teeth:

Seriously, I have never heard of this but I hope its nothing serious

LOL It's DD#1, amid...that kid is trouble!! ;) One year, sick and feverish in Disney, one year we thought she broke her finger in phys ed the day before and spent a couple of hours in a treatment center, and then last year...well, you know THAT story. Otherwise, she really NEVER gets sick! ;)

I'm sure we'll see you down there! Looking forward to it!!

Hi MaryAnn!

I work in an Oral Surgeon's office, those guys treat salivary gland cysts all the time, it's not a big deal. It's "most likely" a mucus retention cyst or a sialolith (stone). The oral surgeon will explain this much better than I can, but he will "probably" just need to open it slightly to remove whatever is causing the blockage and use a couple of dissolveable stitches to close it back up. :)

The important thing is that you are getting it taken care of. It sounds like it's in her mouth so it should be easily dealt with. My sister had one in her neck and it was much harder to diagnose and get taken care of.

I hope it can be taken care of soon. I'd hate for your daughter to find all the wonderful smells and tastes of Disney uncomfortable!

Thanks, Sonja! It sounds bearable. Wish your office was in RI so you could pull some strings and get us in quickly!

disykat, in my travels on the Internet, I did read about the type of thing your sister had...yes, it is harder to diagnose and treat. We're lucky there. And yes, I sure would hate to see DD have to deal with discomfort on this trip. On last year's trip, she was newly diagnosed with a bone disease and was experiencing back and ankle pain in Disney. :(

C'mon down to Dallas, Mare, we'll work something out.

Well, THAT'LL be more convenient! LOL

DD read your description, and says to tell you "eewww". :)

No advice, just wanted to tell you I was LOL at you being on the Vet site:D

I don't have any advice either, but I'm ROFL at the thought of your DD chewing on rocks and sticks. :teeth: I did check my dog for bumps on his tongue because he thinks that sticks are a food group.

You mean sticks don't count as fiber????

BTW.....a few years ago I had a bone scan and when I was checking out that procedure on the internet I was also linked to a vet website.....and was shown a picture of a horse getting a bone scan!

I am sure things will go well for Morgan, Mare. A big {hug} for her, you also.

Dan :sunny:
