OK...so I have to move back home next semester to save money, i'm not so excited BUT it means i get to finish my bedroom.

Right now its is completely painted dark blue, with metallic gold trim because I am going for a neverland theme. I'm 19 and don't want to do anything pink and purply like, unfortunately, all the disney tinkerbell room things are.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of how I could pull off that tink magic without being too little girlish?? And also, any good ways to display all my tinkerbell, pan and other disney collectibles

i know its sounds kind of strange to want NEVERLAND to be a little more GROWN UP....lol but i guess what I am going for is more of a second star to the right motif and less pink and flowers....make sense??

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !! ::yes::

I can't help you with any idea cause I am not creative ut what you are describing sounds really nice, wanna come and decorate my house next? :D

I've got a really good tip for you.............don't call Hildi from Trading Spaces :p for any decorating advice

I love what you've done! Have you considered stamping or stenciling, or if you're really artsy, painting some gold stars in the room? Light glowing ones, not flat ones, if you know what I mean?

The gold trim sounds great. Please take a picture so we can see what you've done. I LOVE making over rooms!

oohhh I love the stamping idea...i think i'm going to head to home depot or lowes and find some good star stamps, but i havent figured out what shape and how big...

Also i think I'm going to stencil lines from the movie around the top of the walls as a border, such as "second star to the right and straight on 'til morning" things like that...all your ideas are helping and really getting me thinking!! I'll be posting pictures as soon as its done!!

and trust me i wouldn't hilde ANYWHERE near my room!! But I think Frank would have some fun ideas for this!

Oh, I saw that idea of the border somewhere. It was underlined by some fancy script just to seperate the words from the rest of the walls.

I'm also thinking that you might want different size stars.

Are you using bright gold, or antique gold? What kind of flooring do you have, and what about the other stuff like curtains and bedspread?

Have you thought about getting some of those wooden shelves, just some short ones, painting them the gold, and then putting them on your walls? They could showcase your treasures.

Paint the ceiling dark blue as well, with clouds and shooting stars. It will give the feeling of the room expanding into the sky.

I might transfer home next year, and I'm attempting to convince my parents to get me a bigger bed, lol.

haha I just bought a full size and i'm short so its huge lol But...my ceiling is the same color as the wall, a deep blue and I feel like i want to hire an artist to come paint the stars because i want it to look nice and not tacky!

about the gold...the color i used for the base was called alladin's lamp and then i used a metallic finish that is usually used for sponging and stuff, but painted over the alladins lamp color completely since it is somewhat see through, just shiny.

my bedspread i believe is from walmart, the blue matches my walls almost exactly with gold stars, suns, and moons....curtains I haven't decided on yet.

my new project is making my "window" for peter pan to come through....its justa regular old window but it is in a little space where the wall goes in a bit...so i was htinking of building a bench with storage underneath to get rid of that inlet and make it seem like a little bay window with a cute place to sit and watch for peter pan! lol

I like it. :)

Can you explain the metalic finish some more, like what it's called and what it does, and how to do it?

When my dd was an infant, we went to the discovery store and got the solar system in glow in the dark plastic "stickers". We put them all over the ceiling - Moon, stars, shooting stars, etc, and even got a set in the peter pan characters. They had Wendy, John, Michael, Peter, Tink, etc. We mixed them in with the stars/Moon, etc and it was soo cool. We are redoing her room now (she's 8 and really into Lizzie McGuire, so thats the theme now), but she still wants to keep the ceiling the same way. I got the Peter Pan stuff at The Disney store a few years back when I worked there, but I believe they still carry them at the World of Disney.

My kids have had glow in the dark stars etc. on their ceilings for years.

My son is now 20 years old and they are still there. He won't let me take them off.

I have to admit they are kind of cool.

I wanted an Elmo theme for my DS' room a few years ago. I borrowed the overhead projector from work and found pictures online and printed them on transparancy paper. With the projector shining it on the walls, I was able to trace the picture, then paint in the lines. It looks great. I think that you can see part of one portrait that is on the wall behind my DS in my signature picture. I washed the blue on the walls to make it look feathery.

It sounds like you're on a good track so far with the blue and gold. That, even by itself, sounds nice.
