My DW and I are going to give my parents a trip on our points to WDW. Our home is SSR and this the only Resort we have stayed at. I was looking for some advice as to which of the Resorts would be good for an elderly but active couple in there late 60"s. They were down about 10 or so years ago and stayed at Dixie Landings, they loved it. We were thinking about OKW because we are under the impression it is a little more laid back there. Any help would be great!

We aren't in our 60's quite yet, but we just adore OKW! One caution, however: OKW is somewhat difficult if you have handicapping issues, such as a bad knee, which makes the stairs a problem. I had just had knee surgery last year(3 weeks before arrival), and they were very snotty when I insisted on a first floor room. In that case, they would love BW. :)

How about BWV or BCV? The Boardwalk area is such a great location -- lots of great restaurants at the Boardwalk area hotels (Boardwalk Inn, Yacht and Beach Club, Swan and Dolphin) plus the World Showcase is within walking distance. It's so nice to walk around the lake in the evening and take in the Boardwalk entertainment. My DH and I are in our early 50s and we just love the atmosphere there.

My parents are in their 70s and they completely fell in love with BCV when we stayed there earlier this year. They loved the resort itself, the proximity to Epcot and MGM, the Boardwalk nearby, the little sand beach, the boat rides around the area, etc. I'm taking them back to BCV in April. :)

Having said that, OKW is indeed beautiful and laidback. I have no doubt that my parents would love it there too. But for us the scales tip in favor of the location of BCV (or BWV).

You are very thoughtful to give your parents such a marvelous gift. :)

As much as I love OKW if you are getting them a studio I would go with one of the other resorts. That way they have both a sofa and bed. My husband and I were in a studio at SSR in Sept. and it was very nice. I like BCV better because of SAB and all the places you can walk to. If you are thinking of a 1BR I would say OKW hands down. Oh yes and being in my early 60's please don't use the term elderly - that's for people in their mid 80's and above. On the other hand I know a few people in their 30's and 40's who are elderly at least in their actions.

While my parents (both in 60s) like the BWV and being in the middle of everything, their favorite is VWL. They enjoy sitting by the fire and people watching and the serenity of it.

Both my parents really enjoyed their stay at the BWV.

They liked going to the Boardwalk in the morning for coffee and really enjoyed people watching and doing the activities at night.

Another big plus they said is they enjoyed taking the quick boat to both MGM and Epcot.

They haven't had any other resort experience however. Our next trip is planned for Dec. 06 and we will be staying at 3 resorts so their minds may change! 1 week at BCV, 1 week BWV and 2 nights at the WL. I wanted to try OKW for a week but my Dad insisted we had to stay in the Epcot location.

My mother in law really enjoyed BW - because it was walking distance for her to Epcot which was easily her favorite place to hang out. Plus we didn't have a car and we didn't want her getting lost on the buses - BWVs simplied the transportation issues.

All the resorts are going to have their charms, and you know your parents. If they would like laid back OKW or if they would prefer to be able to walk to Epcot. My own mother loves WL - she's always loved that particular themeing (reminds her of her dad) and when we stayed there, it was with little kids - the ferry to the MK was nice.

We love OKW, but if they are staying in a studio, I agree that any of the other DVC resorts might be better with the sofa instead of the second bed. It really depends on what your parents like most. If they like lots of outdoor walking area in a peacful spot, then OKW or SSR might be a good choice. VWL would be an option also. If they want to sit by the pool or use the hot tub alot, then I would stay away from BCV because of the crowding and kids at the pool. If they enjoy a lot of activity, BWV would be nice and even SSR would off DTD as an easy access.
