I have a photo that was taken of DH and I many moons ago that my then 3 year old DD wrote on with pen--This weekend I searched thru all the old negatives I have but the pics from this day aren't there.

I have been collecting pics of DH and I to put together for our anniversary and I only have 4--How sad is that? And this one is one of the four. Tons of kid pics and pics of DH but only 4 of the 2 of us together!

If there is someone who can fix this for me I would be most grateful!

Also a quick question--when I scanned the pics into my computer it asked me if I wanted it at 150 or 300 dpi---What is dpi and which one is better?((the pics are going to be printed out by someone other than me))

Thanks in advance for helping me!!

Well before we all try to mess with it, which DPI did you use? It needed to be scanned at 300dpi. It would also be necessary to have access to the full size file to make it really worthwhile.

I did the 300--figured bigger was better but wasn't sure what it meant

How do I give you the bigger file??

I hope this is what you meant!

OK it's the same size??--I scanned it in again and when the big picture popped up I saved it to my pictures then had photobucket get it to put it here.

What did I do wrong?

You are hosting at photobucket. I am not familiar with their process. Is this the biggest file size you can post? It shows 800x600 at 300 DPI

We are probably looking at 3 times the number on the long side so like 2400x?.

what scanner are you using? what is the best quality if will save a jpeg?

I am just trying to find out if you need to scanned it at a lower resolution or did photobucket resize it when you uploaded or linked it.

Might be best to scann at the best setting and email the file to a few volunteers.

Your best bet is to email the original file to a few volunteers. I will take a stab at it. I will pm you my email address.

I am so computer illiterate it's not funny--sorry!!

Just out of curiousity how big do you think you want to print this. This is a little bitty file.

I am having a special menu made for our anniversary so the picture will be the original size which is...ok I just measured the picture and it is 3 1/2x4 1/4 smaller than I thought

I had hoped to find the negatives so I could have it made bigger but no such luck.

I appreciate all the help!

Without having the original scan I played a little. Cropping and doing some editing seemed to bring out the edges better and would probably help more with the original I think.

Here's one with some "posterization" to add some depth:

And regardless of what you do, I'd think about cropping to eliminate some of the white shirt, blouse to focus on the beautiful faces in love as shown below:

And congratulations on the anniversary! We're celebrating our 36th tomorrow.

I'm sure someone has fixed this for you already, but I spent a short amout of time on it just to test myself. I'm pretty new to photoshop, so I just worked on the face and a little of the shirt as a test.
Results..
