My FIL past away last year, and one of the last things he told his wife is that he would like her to take his kids and grandkids to DW, as it was something he could never do when they were young. Does anyone have any ideas how our family could commemorate his memory at Disney? I would really like to do something, but not sure what. Any ideas? TIA

What a terrific idea. Maybe you could do several of the tiles in Epcot. You could do the photo ones or just wording in memory of fil. We usually make a toast to my mom on each and every trip. She passes away a year ago and she loved being in WDW with my dd...in fact she went with me and dd for dd's first visit when she was 6. So, we always lift a glass in her memory.

aawww, the above post is sooo sweet. I was also going to recommend the tiles in Epcot. The image will live on as his memory lives on now. :lovestruc

A topic so close to my heart right now. Our family was scheduled for our trip next week, along with my inlaws (to be their first vacation in over 25 years!). However, my DFIL passed away on Jan. 16 as a result of injuries he sustained in a Dec. accident. He & DMIL were planning to surprise our 4 girls on the morning of our departure by offering to take them to school, but instead heading to the train station. So, fortunately, they are unaware of the changes we have had to make.

We have re-scheduled our trip for September and I would like to do something special in remembrance of "PaPa Grumpy" as my 4 DDs lovingly referred to him. Any more ideas?

If it were me, I'd buy an ornament at the Christmas Shoppe at MK to remember them by when I decorated my tree every year.

Also, I'd probably pull an empty chair into photos when possible for the one who was only there in spirit.

A lot of this may depend on how their spouses are handling the grieving process. I'm sorry for both your losses.

Thanks for the great ideas, I would like more info on the tiles at Epcot, what/where are they? (I haven't been to DW since I was a child, and don't recall anything about them!) Thank You!!

It was my mother and my father who introduced me to WDW when I was about 9 years old. My father passed away in 1983 and my mother in 2003. DW and I were able to purchase with a part of my inheritance our family's ownership in DVC. We spent 7 days at Saratoga Springs Resort just a month ago -- I kept saying, "Thanks Mom" all during my trip, especially when DD (my mother's only grandchild) was having such a great time in the parks and at the resort. I knew we made the right choice and every time we go home to DVC I'll be able to say, "Thanks mom."

I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm not sure if this is an option, but thought I'd throw it out there. Perhaps buy into Disney Vacation Club?

I will be bringing along a little change purse with pennies in it just for the purpose of tossing into the "wish" fountains as a way of remembering and a quiet "wish you were here".

Not many threads bring tears but this one has. Prayers for all. There are wonderful suggestions here. I really don't have anymore but wanted to add that your loved ones would have wanted you to enjoy the trip so even though you play special memory to these wonderful people, don't feel any guit over their missing the trip and ENJOY yourselves!!
