I was wondering if someone had an answer to this question. I made a reservation for my sister-in-law at OKW for the beginning of September. She just had an attack of multiple sclerosis and is numb from the waist down. She is hoping the attack will subside and she can still go on the trip. What are my cancellation options at this point? I can't cancel yet, because she may recover - but I don't want to just lose my points! Suggestions, please!

Sorry to hear about your SIL. MS can be tough.

You have at least two weeks before points would go into holding. You need to do something by 30 days out to avoid the points being in holding (usuable only 60 days prior). The only other hitch would be use year. If you have a Sept or Oct. you points will expire quickly.

MS has been know to make exceptions for medical conditions with a Dr. note

Best of Luck

I am so sorry to hear your sister-in-law's condition. I hope she will recover.

However, if I were you, I will cancel the reservation until you know she can definitely go. Early September is a slow season, and I don't think you will have a problem getting a room at OKW.

Good luck and I hope everything will be OK.

If you cancel 31 days or more from the date of your check-in, nothing happens. The points return to you the same as before you booked. The exception is any points that are borrowed, those stay in this Use Year. If you are within your banking deadlines you can go ahead and bank the current points.

If you cancel 30 days or less, the points become "Holding Account" points. You can use them to book trips 60 days or less before your arrival. They can't be banked and they will expire at the end of your current Use Year.

Hope she feels better and is able to make the trip. :)

We had friends bail out on us this past February less than 30 days out. There was no wasy I could use the points. I wound up using my one time exemption to bank those points instead of a holking account. I did not like to do it but I did not want to lose the points.

I would also check on availability at OKW next week. If it's wide open, I might gamble on getting the villa again when you need it. If it's not, then I would keep the reservation as long as you feel comfortable (that might be 31 days). If worse comes to worse you can put the points in holding or rent them on the rental board. Renting is really quite easy and I have been on both sides of the transaction.
