HELP! Quick Fix For Sick...

Day 4 At BU: Ashlie gets sick.

That's right folks...elevator goes up...immune system goes down...

Killer sore throat and feeling kinda like cruddy all over.

Fixes? (Pre-Note: Drinking tea relieves it for all of 5 seconds...)
 
No advice from me :guilty: Sorry ....but I do have some Pixie Dust... I hope that you feel better soon! :wizard:
 
Sore throat - Throat losanges that taste GOOD. If you get that tickle for coughing, try your hardest not to. Because it just makes the pain ten times worse.

Get some good sleep.
Stretch before bed, and when you wake up.
Drink lots of liquids like water & juice. Stear away from stuff like Coke and such.
If you don't use moisturizer every day, start it. It just makes your face feel clean. If you end up with a runny nose and stuff, and that area becomes dry, you will love moisturizer for those areas.
 

when i started at boarding school, I couldnt go to sleep for the first week cuz my entire body hurt. So I took pain killers like IB Prophin. or you can take like benedryl or something. But drink alot of liquids
 
Take a zinc based medicine to shorten the cold!

Try to get sleep and drink water!
dont let ur self get deheydrated(sp)

Pixie dust is the DISboards way of saying 'hope you feel better' or something of the like in different situations.
 
I come bearing pixie dust as well :wizard: and a big :grouphug:

I agree with many of the suggestions above.. sleep is a big one.. it may be hard since you're just adjusting to your new surrounding.. but even just relaxing and watching a movie with your new buddies as opposed to running around helps.

Vitamin C boosts your immune system, so maybe get some vitamin C drops and take some... if you know met any singers on your campus they're most likely to have some - come fall/winter a few vitamin C lozenges a day feels essential for a vocalist.. Or just up your intake of other things that contain vitamin C(take an extra orange from the dining hall, drink a cup of orange juice, etc..)

Zinc lozenges also may help.. sometimes you have to experiment with the flavors you like, but I found they make me feel better.

Water, water, water! It helps flush things through your system.. and if you feel like your throat is swollen then cold water is 100 times better than tea at the moment.. things like tea and hot soup soothe it, cold water on a swollen throat is kind of like icing a swollen ankle.

Do you take a daily multivitamin? It's amazing the difference I feel when I do and when I forget to for a period of time.

That's all I can think of for now.. I audition/perform a lot in the winter so I have to be ready to fight a cold at any time - so these are just things my directors pound into my brain every year :thumbsup2 I hope you feel better soon! :wizard:
 
Sleep, lots of fluids, and maybe a pain killer, like Tylenol or Motrin to help with the sore throat. And buy some vitamins to take daily. Once you get to a new place, you're exposed to new germs which will get you sick. I always get sick when school starts because I'm not used to the germs and stuff there.

I always ate icecream when I had a sore throat. I dont think it did anything for me, but hey an excuse to eat icecream. :thumbsup2

Gargle (I don't think I spelled but the thing you with mouthwash) with salt water. Then heat up some water. Add lemon (the most important) and I like to put honey ( if you can get honey that is from were you live that is best because if it is from where you live it will help with sinuses. Don't ask me why I just know things). Trust me this works. I had the flu dress rehersal week of You're a Good Man Charlie Brown ( I was Sally). I did this every day and was fine.

There is a medicine called AirBorne that is really good. its a tablet that you put in water to dissolve it. It works very quickly.

the downfall is, the taste is horrible. I just hate it. If you cant keep things down, i wouldnt recommend it.
