Our family dog has been peeing all over our new house, I'm so mad. First he was doing it in a corner of our mud room but I found it cleaned it up and yelled at him. I found a spot in our upstairs hallway last week and he keeps peeing there at night.

I go to bed late and let him out and DH wakes up early and does the same, there's no reason for him to be doing this.

I'm so mad, he ruined the corner of our carpet and I can't get the smell out. I don't know what to do, please any suggestions?

A little more information please.

How old is the dog?
What type of dog is him/her?
How long have you owned the dog?
Have there been any major changes within your household?
Have you asked a vet - maybe its a UTI or bladder infection?

Please give more info - thanks!!

Sorry to hear about the peeing problem. I dont know how you cleaned the area, but if you used just regular soap and water it won't get the urine smell out. Animals are territorial and your dog has marked his territory by urinating there. Try to clean the area with Nature's Miracle or Nok-Out and that will neutralize the urine smell the dog is attracted to.
I agree with the above poster, it might be UTI or bladder problem. Any changes in the house? Is he alone for too long?
Good luck and please be patient :)

thanks for responding! Here's some answers to your ??-

How old is the dog? He's 6 years old.

What type of dog is him/her? A small American Eskimo

How long have you owned the dog? since he was a puppy

Have there been any major changes within your household? We've been in our new house since Jan and no changes since then.

Have you asked a vet - maybe its a UTI or bladder infection? We haven't contacted a vet yet.

Is he alone for too long? Nope I'm a stay at home mom and practically always home. I go to bed late, around 1-2am and let him out and DH is awake early am and lets him out.

He never use to do this before just started out of no where.

I'll have Dh take him to the vet and see if they find anything physically wrong with him.

Thanks again for the help!

Are these places where he might sleep? We have a doberman that was having accidents in the house and didn't figure out that she was doing it in her sleep, when she couldn't control it, until she peed on her own pet bed :( We took her to the vet and he prescribed estrogen of all things and it works like a magic pill!

No, it's in the corner where he doesn't sleep.

Is this a newly built house or did it have previous owners. If it had previous owners and they owned a dog, maybe your dog is marking HIS territory. I bought a house that the previous owners had 3 kids and a dog. They left a piece of carpeting down the basement when they moved out. When we got a cat, she started peeing on that carpet. We removed the carpet and haven't had a problem since. What I figure is that the dog before had gone on that carpet and the cat was just marking it as hers. Could be your dog is doing the same thing.

I forgot to mention in my previous post, if you are looking for a good way to clean these messes up, I love the Bissel Little Green Machine! ::yes:: Good luck!

Check with your vet first, it sounds like a UTI or something like that.
Definitely go to a pet store and get Nature's Miracle or Simple Solution. They contain enzymes that break down the odors- works like a charm! They even have it in spray bottles, just spray it on, let it dry and poof! Smell is gone.

Nope a brand new house.

Dh just pulled the carpet up and removed the padding under the carpet that was ruined and tomorrow he's calling the vet and buying some cleaner to get the smell out of the carpet.

It's just so frustrating. :(

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Don't buy from the vet. Really, a pet store or Walmart is much much cheaper. But while you have your vet on the phone, make an appointment for your dog to get him checked out. That is not normal behavior for a trained dog. It probably is a UTI and he just can't control himself at night.

If it's not a physical problem, such as a UTI, then it's propbably a stress reaction to the move.

DH took our dog to the vet today and he just called me. She said that she thinks it's 1 of 3 things- 1-UTI infection, 2- something that mentioned crystals in it, I can't remember but our cat had it. 3- Cushions(sp?) but she said it's probably not likely because it occurs in older dogs.

Either way she said that they should know tomorrow what it was because they took some tests and either way he most likely will be on antibiotics. She said that since he is neutored that she ruled out a behavioral problem.

The vet said that since he was peeing in the same spot, down the hall from where he sleeps, she felt it was most likely a UTI and he just couldn't control himself.

Thanks for all the help!

We have a 9 yo cocker spaniel and when he gets upset or things in the house aren't routine - like when we brought our DD home from the hospital and when we got a little puppy - he will pee on our carpet - most of the time he just needs more attention. He was our first baby.

Don't rule out behavioral. My dog is 5 and when he is upset with us, he will pee on the carpet (he is also neutered). He's soooo spoiled. My mom comes to my house every day and lets him out and stays and plays with him for about 2 hours so he's fine most of the time. My parents sold their house and moved in with us for about 2 weeks until their new house was finished. My mom was always home with him during the day and he had all of us at night. When my parents left, he clawed a big hole in my new sofa. Now I have to get it recovered.

It would not be unusual for a dog to react to the move, even months afterward.
BTW, yelling at him does nothing, unless you actually catch him in the act of urinating. He has no memory of it beyond the actual moment.

I am glad you are on the road to an answer. In the first post I sent you I felt it was important to investigate a possible UTI because my beloved dog, which had to be put to sleep, had unusual behavior and it was something very serious - Lymphnoma.

By your thread it didn't sound serious like this, but I felt it was serious enough to have a vet check it out. I just didn't want you to regret getting angry with your dog when it might be something out of his control. I hope everything works out:wave:
