My 2 year old has recently potty trained. However, she only uses her little potty chairs. We leave for WDW in less than 2 weeks and I'm not sure what to do about her!! She's not showing any interest in using an actual toliet. I just don't want this trip to ruin what we've accomplished! Thoughts, ideas???

Get a potty seat for the big toilet and hide the potty chairs now so she will get used to the big girl potty! Worked like a charm for us. We told DD now that she was a big girl wearing big girl panties, we needed to give some other little girl her potty chair to learn how to be a big girl too!

My Dd was the same way. I got her a collapsable potty from onestepahead.com It folds up to like a mini briefcase, but fits in a decent size diaper bag. We used it everywhere we went for a while until she got comfortable on the big potty. Good luck!

We use an on-the-go potty for my 2 year old. I got it for $10 at Babies R Us. She just potty trained and is scared of public toilets. It folds up and fits in her backpack. They have liners for it but since it's just a plastic bag and absorbent pad thing I just use a grocery bag and disposable breastpad to absorb it. It's a lot cheaper than what they sell and it works great. It was so frusturating when I trained my oldest because she was terrified of public toilets. She would have accidents and we'd spend so much time going back and forth while she tried to go. My 2 year old is comfortable going because it's her own potty and she hasn't had an accident in weeks. We use it in the car too. Hopefully we'll be past it by our disney trip in Jan, but if not I'll bring it.

I have a minivan, but when we drove to WDW (and our beach trips), we kept the potty in the back of our van. Our little girl had just trained just before her 3rd birthday and while she never had any nighttime accidents. She did have a problem with telling us at the last minute while going down the road. This thing saved us so many times. I have an awesome photo of her with pigtails, wearing sunglasses, a vintage mickey sparkly tshirt... sitting on her "portapotty" in the grass on the hidden side of my minivan. It was super cute.

At home, get rid of that thing. Get the little seat that sits up on the seat. That's what worked for us. Little step ladder, too. :) You can take the folding seats to the park, but i used to just hold my DD.

We never used the little one on the floor - I couldn't clean somthing like that out. It's gross enough with a boy to clean the one that goes on the top of the toilet! :lmao:

I'd get rid of the little one also. My DD used to hold onto the seat - very gross! She washed those hands WELL! But I'd also try to hold her when we were out, so she could hold onto me instead of the seat (ick).

Also, when we first went, DD was 2 1/2, completely trained, but I was afraid of being in a line or on a ride and her needing to go, so I had her wear pull-ups just in case during the trip. That worked well for us, and when we got home, she didn't want them or anything. It was just a little reassurance for me. Also, if she took a long nap in the stroller, I didn't worry if she had an accident. I don't know if this would work for everyone, but it helped us. It's hard to rush to the potty sometimes. Also, we took potty breaks and you had to try even if you didn't think you needed to go.

If you decide to tote along a little potty seat to put on the big ones at Disney, you may want to pack along some post it notes too. Most of the Disney toilets are auto-flush, and many kids are freaked out by the noise. I know as an adult I don't like it when they go off when I am still going about my busines, so to speak. Cover the sensor with a post it note, and that problem will be solved! No scary noises while on the potty.

We just got back from WDW last week. My little one is potty training too! We took her little potty so that she could use it on the way down and in the hotel. Are you driving? If so it worked well for us to take the potty in the car to the park and let her use it (in the parking lot) just before and after we were in parks. Other than that, we used a collapsible potty seat that folded up and fit in my bag. She was pretty comfortable on it. If you get one, you might try it out at home a few times so that your little one can get used to it. She had several accidents during the trip, but I just kept taking her to try and stay consistant.
Good Luck!

Does she use a regular toilet when you're out? My daughters trained with a potty chair at home, but just used the regular toilets if we were out. We always found it easier to have them sit sideways on the potty, lean forward, and hold my hand-- that way they were over the seat far enough and they didn't have to touch anything except my hand. I really would not want to carry around one of those seat inserts unless it was absolutely necessary.

My son was using the regular toilet when we went to Disney in May, but we brought the potty chair with us for the hotel. He has a tendency to take 20 minutes to go sometimes, and it was also convenient for when he had to pee and some one else was in the bathroom. I brought pull-ups and he wore them to the parks the first day or two because I was paranoid, but we were there 12 days (plus two 23 hr car trips) and not one accident!

Start today and use the reg. toilet. Tell her it is to get ready to go to Disney. Tell her if she doesn't use it you won't be able to go since there aren't any potty chairs in Disney! Also go to the store or McDonalds everyday this week and use the BR. Visit every restroom at every public place you are in this week and next. It is all a matter of familiarity. The idea is to make it old hat and not make any big deal about it. take an "of course you will just use the regular BR, what else would you do?" mind set. My kids used potties at home but just used reg BR when we were out because they were never given any other choice.

I agree with the others. Put the potty chair away somewhere - completely out of sight. Tell her she's ready to use the big toilet now and make a big deal of it when she does. Have some small rewards ready like M&Ms or Skittles. Show them to her and tell her she gets one each time she uses the toilet. Don't give in to crying or protesting. She'll probably test you to see if you're serious. Just stand your ground and it will happen!:)

We went to NYC and Sesame Place right after DD was potty trained and brought the "Potette Plus" 2 in 1 potty. (I think this is what an earlier posted mentioned).

Works as a small potty on the floor, but the supports also fold out so you can use it as a seat on the big potty. It is very small and fits in a bag easily. I did not buy their liners, I used small size 'ruffies' brand bags from Target and bought the cheapest nursing pads to throw in the bag to absorb the urine. We still keep it as an emergency potty in the back of the car! I got mine at Babies R Us.

Thanks so much everybody! I ended up ordering that little travel potty on Sunday. I think that combined with pull-ups are my best and safest bet! :worship:

Just an FYI... The baby care station on Magic Kingdom has tiny toilets...
Like they would have in Preschool...

I'm in the same boat as you only my son has been pretty much potty trained since summer and screams when you try to put him on a big toliet even with an insert. He also won't poop even in the little potty. He poops in his underwear every morning when he wakes up. I've tried everything and am at a loss. His older sister was potty trained so easy at 2 so this is all new to me and he is almost 3.5!! He is just one stubborn kid!!

Anyway, we are going to TRY to do the big toliets there but he will be wearing pull-ups for the most part. He really hates to pee in them so I'm hoping maybe this trip will work in our favor and once he sees there is no other choice that he either has to pee in the pull-up or the toliet then he'll chose the toliet!
